So, when I got my Flowmaster cat-back exhaust done, I was told that if I removed the resonator I would get the much unwanted ricer sound, but it would be a lot louder than with it still in. Okay, now that I have installed the Injen CAI the sound has gotten even better, but what I am wondering is would it be louder and cleaner if I removed the resonator or not? All I would have to do is have them cut it out and section in a piece of pipe. I would think that it would improve airflow and maybe even gain a couple HP/TQ from removing it. Anyone have any advice on this?

I personally dont' think removing the resonator will produce any noticeable gains. You will most likely get that raspy "wet noodle slapping on ricepaper" kinda sound during hard acceleration at lower revs.

Well, right now I get this gurgling sound from thje backpressure after acceleration or release of gas at lower gears. I thought maybe that was part of it and my bro-in-law (a mechanic) said I was probably losing HP with it in due to the restriction or airflow.

I don't wanna bring up the whole debate of backpressure vs. horsepower, but I guess it's about personal preference and experimentation.Maybe you should go ahead and try it. Do a before and after video so we can hear the difference (if any). It shouldn't cost too much to remove it, or put it back in if you wanted to revert.
