squeeking with gas?

Hello guys, I'm new to the genvibe forum and this is my first post. I've read through a lot of the posts, and, while I didn't find anything to help my current problem, I found a lot that I am trying to commit to memory for future use. You guys are great and seem to really help each other.Anyways... I bought a "certified-used" 2004 Pontiac Vibe (base) about a month ago. It had about 25K miles on it. The first problem I had is that they told me (and it's listed on the "certified" paperwork/checklist) that the front brakes were replaced. However about two weeks of driving it, the front driver-side brake squeeks. Because the dealership is never open when I'm not working, I took it in for a free brake inspection at another shop. They said that although the brake is squeeking, it still has about 8K of life left and I would be wasting my money to replace it. Does that sound right to you guys that "new" brakes should be squeeking (loud at times) and also only have 8K of life left? I don't know much about auto tech, but I know I drove my Acura Integra almost forever before I replaced the brakes.The other problem (and the one that really bothers me) is that after about a week after having the brakes checked, there is a squeeking sound that happens only when the gas is lightly pressed (driving through a parking lot... or, starting slowly from a stop). After you give it more gas, there's no noise. The sound was faint, but grew louder as days passed. It seemed to be coming from the rear. Last weekend, I took the Vibe in for an oil change and asked them about this problem too. They did the oil change, lube, etc and they couldn't find any problem. I thought it was odd that they didn't notice the problem since it was getting so loud. They said that the exhaust/tail pipe was a little loose and they tightened that since that may start rattling. They told me if the squeek continues, I should take the car to the dealer, since it's under warranty. When I drove away after getting the oil change, the sound was sooooooo much quieter, I could barely hear it at all... so I don't know what made it quiet. I thought that maybe something just needed some lube?? But, now it's starting to come back... so I made an appointment to get it checked at the dealership (I had taking off work to go to the dealership... why are so many service businesses only open during the hours most people are working??!) I don't know much about cars and I hate to go in without a clue... do you guys have any ideas what that may be?? I thought the sound was coming from the rear, but it's hard to tell... especially now that it's a lot more quiet.

I have 50,000 miles on my original brakes and there is lots of life left still. If yours were replaced and only have 8K of life left again, I would be suspicious, especially with the low mileage on your car.

Hello and Welcome to Genvibe! Depending on the kind of pads they used. Some will squeak and some won't.. I'd have someone else take it to the service garage for you where you bought it.. I'm assuming that you still have the original warranty 3/36? Should be covered there and they should cover any work and parts they did up to 3 months 3k miles? Not for sure on that one, but most likely.

Yeah, I had that same problem with my brakes. I checked them out and they just needed cleaned, there was a ton of dust on them. As far as the squeaking, I would go back to the dealer. Oh yeah, Welcome to GenVibe!
