DO NOT USE IT, IF IT'S UP LEAVE IT THERE UNTIL THE DEALER CAN FIX IT! That happen to mine two weeks ago and I like a dumb *ss I tried to get it down one more time and it broke in a million pieces! What a pain, it started rain that night and I had to be at the airport first thing the next morning. Well after a $50 dollar shuttle ride cause I couldn't use my car and then there was the bill to have the window re-tinted because it's after market --- Oh! then there was the argument with the dealer over whose fault it was, my tint guy or Gm, BTW this was the second time it slipped, luck would have it the another dealer fixed it with the tint in place, so they had know choice but to fix it now. Wow! what a pain it turned out to be, a bad regulator was what they said, it was bent and caused the whole thing to jamb. Oh well good luck with yours, Jim M.

Had the problem with the driver-side window sounding like it was cracking when going down at about the 1/2 way point. it was covered by warranty at that time. the tech said it was a common problem, was just a loose nut in the mechanism. he tightened it and put on some lock-tight. no parts were needed. had it done when i had 26,000 miles, now have 76,000. have not had the problem return...

Hmm, my window started snapping as it reached the halfway point... But I kept lowering and raising the thing, listening to it pop. I think I won't do that again after reading some of the other posts here... I didn't think it would be dangerous, but sure seems that way. It doesn't seem to be doing it now, but I think this is getting added to the list of stuff need to have addressed on the ol' clunker....

Is the squeaking related to the popping, I wonder?

I've had the loud clicking/popping sound coming from my driver's side window for a while now as well. I pulled off the door panel, but couldn't see anything that would need an adjustment. Do I need to remove the metal inner panel as well? If it's just a bolt that I can tighten myself, I'd much rather not have to take it to the dealer.Any help in pointing me to the right place would be great

Sooo...can anyone tell me how to find the window regulator and this loose bolt? After I pull off the plastic panel. do I need to stick my hand into the door where the mechanism is? Do I need to remove anything else? thanks.
I found the problem but I can't fix it.

Well I took my door panel off with the intent of fixing the cracking window problem. Here is the vicinity of the problem, and the area I was working. Here are some great pictures of the problem. As you can see the piece of metal the stops the door from swinging open is getting into the path of the window when the door is closed. Now that I've found the problem, I need some help fixing it, since my car as over 50,000 miles, and is out of warranty. I tried a few things today like switching the we'll call it the door stop from the passenger side. The part is the same for both sides, you just need to flip it over, but to my disappointment, the passenger side door stop did the same thing in the driver side door. I also tried grinding part of the door stop off, but I couldn’t get the clearance I needed while still keeping the function of the door stop. Any help would be greatly appreciated, because at this point I'm stuck. I'll be out of town on business for the next week so I won't be able to check in until then. For the people with this problem remember that you can safely roll your window down as long as your door is totally open. Also maybe a mod can sticky this post, since it sounds like a wide spread problem, that could be potentially dangerous.

Does this happen just with Vibes with power windows, or also with Vibes with the manual crank (non-powered)?From the threads, I could not tell whether this problem was universal with both powered and non-powered Vibes. Thanks!

Nate, I had the same problem with mine. It seems that the arm is bent from picture #1. The service dept. took mine off and bent it back straight and also ground a little off the one side. He said it had alot of clearance when he was finished. This happens when the door is a little over extended (pushed open by wind) is what caused mine. These are a bad design on GM's part.

Take it in and have it looked at as soon as you can. Just because its metal on glass doesn't mean that it will scratch it. It only takes a few minutes for them to take the door panel off, so you should be able to take a look at it while your there.

Thanks, Ponyota I did some grinding on it, I'll try to get the rest of clearance I need from bending it. Vibe_dude, yes the bar scrapes against the glass when you raise and lower the window, in my case, I can really tell, because it screwed up my window tinting.

On second thought Ponyota, I took the one off of the passenger side, and put it on the drivers side and it still did the same thing, so there must still be a problem. I'll probably still try bending it this weekend if no one can come up with a better solution.

I too had this problem a few months back, brought it in for warranty and the replaced something, can't remember, but ever since then I felt confident opening the window. Previous to getting it fixed, I heard the clunk or cracking sound you guys mentioned, it sounded like my window was going to fall off or something. Anyways, if you still have warranty get it fixed asap.
