DRL Gripe

I really don't mind the DRLs, since I don't see them when I'm driving! There is one aspect of their operation, though, that really bugs me.On a recent chilly evening, my wife and I were out running errands. I stopped at a store to run in, and she stayed in the Vibe. I wanted to leave the car running to provide heat, but I wanted to turn the headlights off. I had to set the parking brake, turn off the engine, then when I restarted it, the DRL system did not come on because the parking brake was set. (I have a base 5-speed... I don't know if the automatics work the same way).I would really like to be able to turn off the DRLs without having to stop and restart the engine. I think this is a Toyota thing, not GM. Am I right? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I cut the wire indicated in the drl mod how-to and wired a switch in between the wires. This allows me to control drl's and the auto headlights.

GM has a switch on the Impala/Monte Carlo police version marked "Survalance Mode" I just ordered one to see if I can make it fit one of the holes, or will I have to cut a hole.

Here it is. To show the size, that's a dime beside it. It has 3 fingers, because it goes into the alternate trunk release hole.

There is allegedly a reworked DRL module available from GM that acts like normal GM vehicles: the lights turn off it the brake is engaged, without having to restart the engine.Nick could provide more info on this than I can...

It's just like using the parking brake as the drl switch.
