Im sure there is a ton of posts on this but I couldnt find the info I was looking for. I got a shorty billet antenna for the vibe and the reception sucked. My stock antenna keeps getting stuck on my garage door so I want a shorter one. Anyone know of a short one with good reception? I was very very unhappy with the one I purchased.

I bought one off Ebay (a shorty) and have had no problems with it. Let me see if I can find any on Ebay from my seller....

I also bought one on Ebay from a Mr. Lloyd Luang but he no longer seems to have any listed. Mine works about 90% as well as the stock one.

I was worried about it too as it is one of the 3 piece screw together billet looking antennas. Might be a difference in location and signal strength. Being as I live right smack dab in the middle of San Diego, I could probably get decent reception without any antenna, so it might have something to do with that as well.

I think if you get bad reception you can put a small washer in between the base and the antenna to help improve it.

I tried the washer trick, didnt help any. My sister who drives the Vibe *****ed that the short antenna didnt work well, and I drove it and it really didnt. If id go down a hill, id loose the radio no matter what station. So I put the factory antenna back on and no complaints. So Im lookin for a better quality short antenna now.

I bought an aluminum shorty off ebay from a guy in Germany. $16 and it works great. Here's his email:
versand1@inovenda.de. It's worth a try.

This is the shorty I have considered buying on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...WA:ITDoes anyone have any experience with this seller? I was also concerned that the reception would decrease, but the shorty looks alot better than the factory one...

Ever since I lost my antenna to a car wash 4 months ago, I noticed a slight decrease in range. I have had no antenna for a while, but I have cd's and my annoying wife to keep me company.

Dumb question: Can you just raise the garage door more?

Dumb question: Can you just raise the garage door more? LOL well it is raised as high as it will go, my garage is very low. In fact I had to take te cross bars off the roof rack of our Bravada so it would even fit in the garage.

i was also having issues with my garage door and like the look of the stubby antenna, so i went to my local honda dealer and grabbed an st00k antenna.. looks sexy and if anything my reception is better now than before.

There is a stubby lexus antenna that matches the base better than the honda one... Im still not sure why the s2k one got so popular for our cars..hahah I had one it looked good but the base didnt match up with the roof base.

meh, function over form for me.. plus it was readily available. I only had to wait 5 min to have it brought out front to me. And it was maybe 4 bucks more than an ebay one and I bet it sounds 10x better

Oh it was a great antenna for function I either didnt notice a difference in quality or it was so small it didnt matter. FM still came in pretty much the same. I want to know where the shark fin antenna buy is again! hahah

i would have loved a color matched shark fin, but i have that stupid xm antenna on top of my car and it ruins the pure sexiness that would stem from the shark fin... BOOOO

Mike, At some point I had to take the antenna off mine to carry something on the roof rack, and I must have just laid it on the roof, drove off and never saw it again. I picked up a generic replacement from an auto parts store. A little bit shorter than the stock one, and had a property that reminds me of a joke.Did you hear about the new male contraceptive pill? It's big, about one inch in diameter. The man puts it in his shoe and it makes him limp.Anyway, this replacement was significantly more flexible than the stock one. Reception with it was ok, I didn't do any scientific observations of signal quality, comparing it to a stock one. Today I stopped at a junkyard, (one I will defintely go back to) and found a stock one (off a Jetta) , they let me just take it, for no money, free, and said come back when I needed something valuable So, I now have this other one, being a little bit shorter and more flexible, it might take your low garage roof better than the stock one. If you want to try it, IM me an address, I'll get it to you for the amount I paid to replace it today.

Seems gone are the days of TUNING aftermarket antennas with an SWR meter... I've done it and it sucks... The shorties must be pre-tuned or something... Same for the Shark Fins...

I did a search and thought this would be a good place to post this:I picked up a shorter antenna from the Mazda CX-9 and installed it on the vibe. It's not super short, but definitely smaller than the big ole antenna that comes with the vibe... And I have no less reception! If I remember I'll take a photo or two.. warning: car is pretty dirty, if I do take a pic.
