remember me?

its been a while since ive posted, let alone surf this site. i made it home from iraq this last december, all in once piece. the wife drives the vibe now and ive been drive my 73 bronco. but dont worry, i have nothing but good things to say about my vibe when people ask. i wish i could say the same about my service dept. thats one of the things that made me come back here and post.well my vibe is at 37,500 miles. i brought it in today because the backlit for the shifter went out. figured id take it in since i bought the 6 year/60,000 warranty. well, first off, i had been erased from their computer. NO record of me exsited except for some papers that were filed from the last time the vibe was in(october). my vin had someone elses name, wrong address and all. my wife said it had been like this the last 4 times she went in while i was gone for the year in iraq. they told her each time it would be fixed. so we stood there for 45 mins while they tried to figure it out. finally, the guy got around to helping us for what we brought it in for. maybe i am just ignorant, but this seems outragous to me. he wanted me to sign paper saying i would pay $100 for the inspection fee, if the extended sersive plan(6 year/60,000) wouldnt cover the repair, and they wouldnt know if its covered untill they inspect it. that just rubbed me the wrong way. first off, i was led to believe my 60,000 mile plan was an "extension" of the factory plan. i had figured that all was covered just as it was for the first 36,000 miles. i really did not like having to sign a waiver saying id pay $100. obviously they cant say whats wrong with it with out looking at it, but what ever happen to a free estimate? i would have gladly signed it if i knew it was covered, but $100 just to have bulb replaced, plus the price of the bulb, then the labor to install it if it wasnt covered!?!?!?! i told them it wasnt worth the money and left. i just wish my sales person would have explained that extended warranty better so now i am here to surf for a solution to my backlit shifter ploblem, maybe i can fix it myself. time for the good old SEARCH feature! good to be back!

Welcome back and glad to see you made it home in one piece! Hopefully you'll be able to straighten out your current Vibe issue with your dealer, or possibly by yourself. I believe ragingfish put together a thread on how to remove the shifter assembly area (looked semi-easy if I remember right) so you may be able to replace the bulb (if any) easier plus get a little hands-on with the Vibe too. edit: here it is http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5940

definitely good to hear you are back and safe. also check out http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=15117 and http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=13822that $100 waiver sounds strange, maybe it's standard, but I wouldn't sign up for a possible $100 fee just for a burned out light bulb.Quote, originally posted by meathead333 » good to be back!good to have you back!

Welcome back. I still have a few friends deployed out there right now.I had a similar experience at the GM service center yesterday when I brought my 2003 Grand Am in. The rear power window was off track and the signal flasher module was acting crazy and smelled like it was burning. I have the 6yr/60,000 warranty on it as well. During the ticket write-up they asked me if I had been screwing around with the flashers or if my tint broke the power window . Their quote for the window was $220 and $212 to replace the flasher module (for the 5th time!). They originally tried to charge me a total of $432 for everything, but then I b*tched about what the freak my warranty was good for. The service rep got the "Oh sh*t! He's not falling for it" look on his face then 'made some calls'. He came back and said they'd cover everything after the $100 inspection fee. I was still kinda pissed, but oh well.I've never had any trouble bringing my Matrix into the Toyota center. All warranty issues have been taken care of without any questions asked. And everything was free to me.

So you paid $100 to get things fixed that were covered under the GM 6yr/60,000 mile warranty? Or is it a $100 deductible plan.

anyone know if i can sell back my 6/60,000 warranty? or is that a bad idea? might as well use that money for repair costs if the warranty isnt going to cover small things.

I was able to sell mine for $1500 to use for a downpayment on my Sebring. I guess it's up to you. Honestly, for the amount of money you'll get versus the potential for costs if something goes on the powertrain, it might be best to keep it around. It won't cover the little problems, but it will darned sure cover the big ones.

Go figure!

Whoa! Long time no see brother! I left around the same time as you, but jeez man, you took forever. Very pleased to see you back in one piece because I have a friend that did not. I'm getting out of the service myself, but I hope everything is going well on your end. Welcome back, and thanks for being there for the rest of us.

Glad you are home safe and sound.Dad was a meathead, but he always said Airforce police. About the dealer, call GM and see what they say. It sounds to me like a dealer problem and for that I would get GM involved, you would be surprised how nice the dealer will get when you go up the chain a bit.Cheers,JS
