I am considering buying a GM certified used 0AWD Vibe...When I spoke to the salesman on the phone(i found it online:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/...st=12He said I could see it Monday cuz the owners wife was driving it home! i got the impression she uses it alot.Would someone tooling around in a "Certified" Used car possible cause some issues that might make it, ummm, UNcertifited-sorta?"??To ME, "Certified" means it has been inspected my pros(dealer techs do it?) passed, and should STAY in the "Certified" condition till someone buys it?Am I right or being (removed)?thank you!

Ahh, yes... Certified gets thrown around a lot these days. I don't think you have anything to worry about, in regards to someone driving the car rendering it uncertified.Whatever certified really means.

Certification is basically nothing more than a passed inspection, so unless the owner's wife is taking out to the drag strip and racing it on street night, you shouldn't have much to worry about. No worse than a test drive every day, really, I'd imagine. Does GM have some sort of information out there on what the "certification" inspection really entails/means? I'd be curious myself...

One more thing I thought about....the only bad thing involved with the owner's wife driving it around is that she's eating into what's left of the warranty. If it was out of warranty, it wouldn't matter, but with 20K left on it, I think if I was the dealer I'd want to preserve that as much as possible. JMHO.

Sh*t! Your damn right! That was another question I had...Do warranties always transfer to a new owner if it's still within the time frame of the original warranty? The one I'm gonna look at is GM Certified... Other manufacturers certifieds seems to have a year, GM's is only 3 months or someting

Yes, the warranty is for the car, not the owner, so it transfers. The certification warranty is for a certified used vehicle that is already out of its original warranty.P.S. Please don't post in all bold font. Thanks.

Ok, no more bold, didn't mean to offend, just thought it looked nicer. So, to be clear, does Certified mean my car is out of warranty, or that it will be warranted another 3 months after original warranty runs out?Thanx again for your expertise~!

No, it's not out of warranty, it's just been inspected. It still has 20K miles or however many months until 36 is up left on the original GM warranty. Cars that are already out of warranty and are inspected end up with the extra warranty you were talking about; the Vibe you're looking at is not affected by that at all.

"All eligible new GM vehicles start out with a GM comprehensive limited, 36-month/36,000-mile warranty. For vehicles that are still covered by their original 36/36 warranty, GM Certified Used Vehicles extends that warranty to 39 months or 39,000 miles. If the vehicle being certified is beyond its original factory warranty, GM Certified will provide a 3-month/3,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty. If you feel more comfortable with extra coverage, you can arrange that with your GM Certified Used Vehicles dealer."
