Saw this from a post on MO ... thought it was pretty cool. I would think it would fit the Vibe, since it was made for the Matrix.EDITED to repair links.

well, you can run your AC without the car running...but you'd better have a fresh battery ready

I see that Cableas has a SUV tent also. If you where really in need of heat, bring a flexible exhaust hose and hook up to tail pipe and run it off to the side away from tent (make sure you get a real good seal on that pipe, perhaps have a hose clamp on it) Have a remote starter and if you wake up in the middle of the night and its cold, push a button and BAMMO!!! heat! Starters have a automatic shutt-off so if you should fall back asleep the car will automatically shut off in 15 min anyways.

or buy a warm sleeping bag no way the car would be able to supply good heat in 15 min

"no way the car would be able to supply good heat in 15 min"I live in Mich. and YES 15 min is long enough to get some heat.I'm not talking about heating a tent to 70 deg. for God's sake! The main reason is simply to take the edge off the cold.By the way. speaking of heat. My Vibes heater is AWSOME!! the thing kicks out hotter temps than any of the 27 cars I have owned over the years!!! And the fan speed/airflow is very good also. I'll have to put a thermo. to it to see just how hot it gets.

you should insulate the heater and get hotter temps!!!! do it

I've wondered what it would take to build a similar type thing for the vibe. I imagine you could build some kind of roll-out that ties in to the tie down rails on the inside. (as long as you don't put much weight on end of the part that slides out.) Then put some industrial velcro or button clips on the hatch and the bottom of the slide out. Then throw a futon matress on it and your done.

one would think it should fit the Vibe, because isn't most of the Vibe/Matrix differences mostly just finish and not that much hard body ?

*relive old thread*Has any one looked into this? I know on Amazon they are about $180, which is a bit pricey.... but I think it's a great idea. I would love to have it. And not just to have AC/Exaust while camping.... It would just be nice to have with the family so me and the wife could sleep in the vibe (the air matress fits perfeect) and the daughter could sleep in the tent part, and we would be one big happy Fam, lol.just seeing if any one out there ever actually got one or knew any one that had one. OR if any one knew of one for sale.... even used... I would jump on that...

It does look pretty neat. The roof rack may interfere with the sealing around the top where it "mates" to the car.Even cheaper at Dicks:http://www.dickssportinggoods....55230

However I wonder how water would flow around the areas where tent meets car? I'd almost think that water would run into the tent, not very appealing.

I don't know, for one, I try and not be out camping in the rain, and for two.... if it starts raining, I would sleep in the vibe any way..... but I don't think it would get in the tent any more than normal any way.... but that's just me.

I'd almost think that water would run into the tentI don't think so - the car/tent interfaces all appear to be designed so water would be running down from the tent fabric and then down the outside of the car to the ground. But I do have some other concerns. One is that many campsites have a car parking area that is separated from the intended tent spot by a log, small fence, or other barrier. And even without a real barrier, the car/tent combination is pretty long so finding an appropriate spot that is flat and rock-free for the tent may be harder than usual. I also like to be able to hop in the car for excursions while leaving the tent up - that's possible with this arrangement but would require a little more effort to first detach the car from the tent and properly secure the tent openings. Finally, in bear country it's good to be able to securely hide and lock all food items in the vehicle and keep them out of the vulnerable tent.

Can't belive I haven't seen this thread before. I picked the Sportz tent this past summer. Works pretty well, although I'm a little concerned with taking it out in the rain. As for the AC/heat issue - if the car is running when the tent is installed you'll cook the tent. It comes in contact with the exhaust and there's no way around it.And for the camp sites that have separate parking, it can still be used as a regular tent.

That was my main concern was if it could be used on it's own without the car and still be a good tent.... Maybe this winter I will pick one up for the spring.

Tent is listed on the Toyota Canada website under accessories for Matrix as costing $284.50. Kind of pricey for a tent. But you will be unique. As I don't know anyone who has one.

It's kind of an integrated fly, for lack of better terminology. Although it's not the roof that concerns me, it's the top where it attaches to the roof rails. Not exactly sealed, but on the other hand, in the case of rain, it should travel away from the tent. I lost the instructions, so I might just be setting it up wrong, too. I'll play around with it again next summer. Quote, originally posted by goodvibrations »Tent is listed on the Toyota Canada website under accessories for Matrix as costing $284.50. I picked it up from Costco for $170.

y'all should just get a regular tent, you can buy bigger tents for cheaper then what they're gonna charge you for one specifically made for a vibe/matrix

True, but this is the only tent I've owned that people in the campground stop and say, "Wow, that's neat - I've never seen one of those before."

Doubt it. They had a truck as well as an SUV tent last year as well. I think the SUV model is going to ride too high for the Vibe.

this idea is just ok to me. i haven't been camping much, (but i did take the vibe out camping in 06 and slept in the back ok ). about the only thing i can see the vibe being useful for is music, which a small set of speakers to plug into an ipod or a lil boombox would take care of.
