my Vibe now locks automatically, without anyone in the car, no key in the car. It usually locks itself within 5 minutes. every morning coming to the garage, the car is locked.any ideas? thanks.

If you unlock it with the remote and you don't start the car, it will relock itself. If you drive home , park the car and walk in the house it should not lock itself. If you play with the remote and lock and unlock, it will relock itself. I think this feature is to keep your car locked if the remote gets pushed by accident in a purse or pocket. Otherwise the car would remain unlocked until you noticed it and relocked it.

My '03 doesn't have the security system, but if I unlock it then don't open a door within maybe 15 seconds, it re-locks. I think it's like Sunny says, a fail-safe if you accidenetly hit the button.

Also, wouldn't hurt to check if your keyless entry remotes have the lock button stuck down... All three of my remotes do this frequently. When that happens, the remote will not work if you hit unlock - you have to get the lock button to pop back up before the remote will be usable again. Not the best design on Toyota's part, IMHO. It's very easy to get the lock button jammed down if you have other items in your pocket...Aside from that, it could be the lock button being hit... Even if none of the doors were locked, if you hit the unlock button, the doors will all lock after 30 seconds anyway.A lot of new GM cars have delayed locking, but I know the 03/04 Vibes do not. Not sure if the 05's with automatic have the feature either.... With the delayed locking, you just hit the lock button on the door on your way out, and all doors will lock x seconds after all have been closed.

on 2 separate occasions i've found my rear hatch open when i get out to my car. It's parked right infront of my house and i figure a key may have pressed the button on the FOB while in my pocket...could this be the case? It sounds like bellwilliam is experiencing this problem without using the "30 second delay"

Are you sure your remote will lock and unlock your hatch? You may have a wiring problem with the hatch release. I remember quite a while back that someone else had a similar problem.

If I unlock my car but don't open any door, it will re-lock itself in about 15 seconds.
