What state has the most hideous license plate?

Just curious to see what you guys had to say on this issue...Indiana has had some real winners in the past (i.e. the Wander Indiana plate lol!) but for me, the current Kentucky plate takes the cake.Straight outta Teletubbies. Although I have seen some cool mutiliations of Mr. Smiley in the middle of the plate. One car here at work has that plate with a big red dot in the middle of the sun's head with blood trickling down. I've also found things like an eye patch on that thing, stuff like that. So, what plates past and present do you think are tacky?

I got it from my uncle in the mid-1980's.I absolutely HATE the new PA plates. Looks like the design was chosen from a contest held at a gay pride parade. They're ugly as all hell.

That's great! I'd like to really start working a plate collection, and I'm oddly fascinated by the Wander plate. Definitely need one. I've got the current and previous Indiana standard issue plates hanging up in my apartment as decoration. Need to add more. BTW, in PA do they have you voting for a few plates that they let the masses vote on? They did that here last go around.

What do they look like? Not sure I've seen one. Or paid attention if I did.I've seen the blue and yellow one and I don't think it looks that bad. Better than ours with the sun rising over the state and shining all over it because we're all just so sunny and happy. I can't stand that Kentucky plate though. It looks silly.

Yep that's the one I've seen...it's fairly calm compared to that Kentucky plate. Now THAT is the one from the gay pride parade design contest.

I actually have a couple of pristine NJ plates at the folks' house that look like the 1959 version in that pic. The grandparents used to live there many moons ago... I need to go snag those next time I'm down there. And yea, wth is up with the links?Let's see how this one works... This is the plate I currently have on the Vibe. Not too terribly beautiful, but I've seen worse.

Oh, did I mention the "visit.pa.org" Thank God I still had the Injen plate cover under my bed, hides the web address nicely.

In general, I hate:Any plate with a web address (URL) on it.Any plate designed by contest.(Especially if the contest was for kids.)Plates tied into state marketing campaigns, e.g., "Virginia is for Lovers"Red, white and blue plates (except for District of Columbia... they deserve 'em)Schizophrenic states. (Just how many different Florida plates ARE there?)Misleading plates, like North Carolina "First in Flight". (Everyone KNOWS that all NC contributed was a lot of wind, which tradition they continue to this day.)Plates that are flat, rather than embossed.I prefer simplicity. Just name of state, plate number and traditional slogan or nickname, please, on a tasteful color scheme.

Maybe "deserve" was the wrong word. Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

The last plate we voted for was supposed to have our slogan of "Back Home Again." When January of '03 rolled around and we got our new plates, we ended up with

Quote, originally posted by esjones »Plates that are flat, rather than embossed.Yeah, that's what we ended up with this time. I suppose it is more efficient to use the flat plates, I dunno. Far less thick metal is required, no dies, no stamping equipment. And the first run of the current Indiana standard issue, with the way our plates have so many characters - county code, letter, and 1-4 digits, the huge font they used with no spacing made it difficult to read 'em (the "real" plate in the last post I made shows this.) They changed them shortly thereafter, scaling down the font making the county and sequence numbers larger than the letter in the middle, and spaced them out better. Kinda like they've done since the 60's, but the characters are still smaller than what they were when the plates were embossed. Oops, guess they learned from that mistake. Not to mention, it seems many of our embossed plates end up not being completely flat, and curve outward near the bottom. Guess that's a byproduct of how they are produced. The environmental plate I have is still embossed, but a few of our special interest plates are coming out flat these days. Only a matter of time until I have to replace my embossed plate with a flat one, I imagine.

I have never liked Nebraska's plate. The color scheme is not too good. Especially on a blue or green car, then it really looks bad.

I happen to like both of the recent Indiana plates:As for Jersey, I think we have too many plate options. Look at all of these!First, standard issue:Now, special interests: These two are for historic and classic cars: That's not including the ones you can get for doctors, military, etc.INSANE!

You guys do have tons of plates there! Don't have time to check out the ones you and raging posted at the moment though. Interested to see what I shall find. We've got a ton of special plates, but nowhere near as many as some places.
http://www.in.gov/bmv/platesan....html At one point in time back in the 90's, there was a plate by some organization of square dancers you could get... lolSeems to be easy to get your state to offer a special plate... For the most part, I think you just gotta get enough people willing to buy them, there you go.

I never did get the Indiana slogan "the crossroads of America" I always took it to mean that you had to go through Indiana to get to someplace worthwhile. Come through Indiana, a lot of roads go through here. Seems like it would be better to promote something about Indiana as a destination.

I think Illinois plates are really boring and half the time Lincoln's face is all covered. Why not the skyline of chicago or something? Of course the downstate people would not be pleased from what I hear.

But actually we do have plenty of stuff here - there's more to Indiana than just corn. Like the "LEGENDARY SHOE TREE!" Pretty disgusting, you're out in the middle of nowhere and wow, there's a tree with like 100 years of people's shoes hanging from its branches! Listed as an attraction on Crawford County's offical tourism site for cryin' out loud! lol! Not to mention they started it off with "need a pair of shoes?" What the?http://www.crawfordcountyindia...e.phpThat whole county (about 45 minutes west from me) is just downright scary. It's like time stands still - literally. I'll get some pics of it one of these days, next time I need to take the Vibe down some dirt roads.

Especailly considering the high paying jobs are few and far between for the most part!Wondering what the new plate will end up looking like... I can't stand the Indiana flat plate. I think it's cheap looking and nasty ugly! I had one of those and I got something on it. It started to peel the coating off of it! I decided when I purchased the Vibe that I would go with a plain truck plate and cover it with a light smoke tint plastic cover and a nice laser cut stainless steel frame. Yeah it cost a little more but I don't have to have that ugly green yellow picture thing on the back of my Vibe. There is more in Indiana other than corn and farms! I do however like that one with the state in gold. I never seen them. Is it a older plate? Looks like it might be older or maybe for personalizing?

Aww...I like the new TN plate. It looks better than the previous one, IMHO. When I decided not to renew my UK plate I ended up with one of the old ones and I was disappointed because I knew the new one was coming and that I liked it better. I have to wait until October to get one though...I'd trade you if I could! LOL

I can only base it from what I've seen. When I lived in Ohio I like the all white plate better than the r/w/b. In CT I like the plates now. They match pretty much all cars. Now I still see occasionaly NJ people with that god awful sky blue plate? How can you legally still have that plate, its like 10 years old?PA pisses me off cause I cannot stand seeing a state web address on there.Ohio confuses me cause it says Birthplace of Aviation, yet North Carolina has First in Flight. So whats it gonna be people???Vermont is dull and boring and needs to change, and Massachusetts needs to just not exist. (sorry I'm a Yankees fan, lol) For some reason whenever a M******* is on a CT highway they drive 50 in the fast lane and never move over. But in their own state they do 90????Anyways, here's the plates! It has a shiny coating so it reflectsThis is the one I will be getting soonI still don't get how people have these stillBoringNot as BadLearn to drive before entering my stateEnter with this and you will be run off the roadAnd the one I took from the Happy Island when on vaca!
