I have been working construction for the past few months building additions, but I realy enjoy Woodworking on a more relaxed level if you will i.e. furniture making. I have been working on Adirondack Furniture and book cases and tables and such. I will be looking for a new router soon and would also like a planer. My theory is you can only make things as good as your tools. albeit craftsmanship does play a role there as well. I was just curious as to hear what others would reccomend. I know Craftsman, they have quality tools, but there are other brands out there and would like to know what others are using. Thanks

for mechanics tools I know craftsman is pretty good, and their hand held power tools are ok, but I don't know about professional quality wood shop tools. I like Makita and DeWalt power hand tools. The only "shop" tool I have is a Craftsman radial arm saw, which works pretty good as a multipurpose rip/cross cut/mitre saw, but it is hard to keep aligned. I don't have a lot of room for woodworking tools, there's competition in my garage for spacethere's some truth in the old saying "a poor workman blames his tools" but it is a lot easier to be a good workman with good tools. Getting set up with all the right tools can be expensive though

And following up on that, the craftsman power tools are rebadged brands made for sears. For example, The same belt sander (hand held) you could buy at Wally World for $40 by black and decker is the same sander at Sears for $50. Same specs and design, just one is red and one is black. Know what I mean? Craftsman power tools are not warranted for life either. Their hand tools are made by Huskey. Same warranty, although I know Sears has a pretty much no questions asked exchange policy

I like bosh for my hand tools, drills, etc...

All my power tools are Ryobi. I have used Dewalt and Bosch, they are decent but the Ryobi's (for the money) are my choice.

In my opinion I like the Milwalkees (sp?) We've been useing there tools for about the last 2 yr's at work and they seem to outlast defaults I mean dewalts and bosch but to each there own.
