Is the Vibe's windsheild made of thin glass or what?

I got my 2nd chip in my windshield today in less than a year. This one is right in my vision line so they will have to replace the windshield. Not something I am happy about but at least the insurance is going to cover all but $50.00 of it. Is the Vibe's windshield made of thin glass or what though? I have been driving to work here, at the same place, for over 16 years now. I have had many cars over that time. This Vibe is the first car I have EVER had a chip in the windshield. I just find that strange. The one today didn't even seem to hit that hard and I wasn't behind any trucks or anything of that sort. Oh well. Just wanted to vent a little.

I also got 2 major hits, the second one is spidering all over. I thought it was just me but the Vibe is a magnet for rocks. I'm used to driving a pick-up and now I am paranoid every time I see a big truck approaching me on the highway. I squint my eyes and await the inevitable smack of another rock impacting the windshield. I don't know if the Vibe has a weak window or if the shape of the car directs the rocks towards the windshield but I'm not liking it one bit.

I agree and and have also always wondered if it was the shape of the car or what? I have never had so many rock chips and windshield problems with any other car. Of course all my other cars sat lower to the ground before this Vibe, maybe that's it. I don't know. I love the car but these little issues really tick me off sometimes.

No chips on mine... But, when I'm driving toward the sun in the morning or evening, it's very hard to see out of the windshield thanks to it being sandblasted!

Replaced my windsheild after about a year. Noticed that a few Vibes/Matrixes had the same "pattern"Called GM Canada and logged a complaint, oh well not holding my breath!

ha ha! that's nothing.... pics don't do justice to my sad sad windshield. and no, it's not the glass. every single vehicle i've owned within 2 wks of ownership gets a crack in the windshield. not a pit or star, but a CRACK! we call it the alaskan beauty mark. few cars are without. lol. just got another one on the drivers side this time about a month ago.

Two months after I bought my Vibe, my Dad was taking it to get the oil changed, and got nailed by a "boulder" on the freeway. He never saw it, but when it hit, it left a great calling card. Supposedly Arizona is notorious for flying rocks and cracked windshields, but this is the first I've ever had to replace.

In the 2.5 years I've owned my car, I've gotten 6 stone chips. Took it in & got the worst 3 repaired (covered for free under my insurance). I said I'd be back when I got one more (they'll only do 3 at a time). Well, #6 was a doozy, and unrepairable. I had to get a new windshield. So far, it's been chip-free for about 6 months!

I don't have any cracks, but I do have a little spiderweb from a piece of concrete that flew off a truck driving on some of those wonderful Michigan roads on my way to the Supermeet last year. Got it fixed as soon as I got home so it wouldn't spread. $40 dollars and a noticeable pit is better than a lighter wallet and a new windshield.

I'm getting one next month. When I bought my car it had several chips, but they fixes 5 of them, and now it's like a funhouse mirror. Plus they used pink paint pen on the windsheild when they priced the car, and i have several pink spots on the windsheild now, and, to top it all off, it's sandblasted pretty bad too.

I am also on my second windsheild (31k miles), and it already has more than 5 stars filled with resin. Also have a fog light lense broken. I think the windsheild quality is good, but since the Vibe sits a little higher and the WS is not raked back as much as other cars I have owned, that is it much more prone to WS breakage. I use to drive a 52 Ford pickup around all the time, it had a flat, pretty much verticle WS. That thing broke every time it got hit. Luckily since it was flat it was also cheap. The price of the Vibes WS are coming down finally. I wonder if the 03/04 are the same as the 05?

I've had 5 chips, one new windshield and had to replace my fog lights due to rocks on the highway. My new windshield is scatched from using my wipers when the windshield is dry to sweep dust off when driving on dirt roads. I've never had any chips from driving on dirt roads though.

My 2-month old Vibe has a Major crack (maybe 20" long) that apparently happened during a road trip last week. Good (but HOT) weather/ smooth roads/not much traffic, and I didn't know anything hit the windshield. But there is a little divot where it was hit, and three cracks radiating out from it.For the record.

its not just the vibe. I think its more of the roads people drive on. I went through 3 on my windstar, only on my second one with my vibe. Thing is I drive on a 130 mile stretch of highway twice a weekend when i go home to see the parents. Another thing is the vibe's windshield seems sort of flat.... atleast my aftermarket one does, that prolly makes it a little more prone.I stay far away from trucks...any trucks! My best friend in his 2003 cavy just had his windshield replace, because a gravel truck lost some of its load on the hwy and a baseball size rock hit his windshield where his head was, it only dented in and spidered didnt break through! wow that was a nasty hit.

Call your insurance agent. It should be covered under comprehensive. And if they can fix it (not replace the windshield) it should be covered without the deductible.

Well some of the chips "looked" like they were pitted like it was a paint defect or chemical pitting? well there is a section the warrenty that states in the first year or 12000 miles I think... it fixes paint that was environmently damaged.... I don't know if this will help you.. but it worked for me....

I've had a lot of different cars that I put a lot of miles on, and I never ran into any windshield problems until the vibe. In the end, despite it costing me $100 for the deductible to replace the windshield, at least they gave me one that had the tint at the top that they were too cheap to give me at the factory.

I've had things that hit my window that should have come right through and didn't even leave a mark on the glass... then some pebble comes sailing through the air from a car 100 feet ahead of me and "CRACK!" which I had filled to keep from spreading.the glass is really no different from any other car I've driven/owned...

It's not the glass, it's the car. The Vibe is the worst rock magnet I have ever seen. On my present Vibe the window has been broken twice in 7 months. My truck is 7 years old and the original window.

We had a bullseye repaired about a month ago. Not 2 days after that repair, took a hit and have a pretty bad crack. We're going to need a full replacement this time. We also still need to replace a fog light that has a bit hole in it.We've had the Vibe about 15 months. I've never had a single glass chip or crack in another car in 19 years of driving...
