White Letter Tires

Has anyone tried to white letter their own tires? Does it work? There a white letter marking pen by Monkeygrip, but I'd like to know if it works before I try it.I had white letter tires on my '70 ElCamino and loved them. Will they look good on the vibe? Either I've gotta wait till these tires wear out (not long the way I've been driving - gotta love the lift!) or I have to letter them myself.

White letter tires is a truck thing, not a Vibe thing. I wouldn't do it.

My 89 bonneville had whitewall tires...That's the last time I personally saw white on tires...But no, to answer your question, I haven't tried...

I had white letter tires on my 76 Trans Am and my 78 Sunbird wagon. That was a different time, though, when I also had a leisure suit.

white walls and white letters are for old people cars or muscle cars/trucks.I'd shoot myself if someone white lettered my tires lol.

Well paint my neck red, pull my polyester tweed golf pants up to my nipples, and pull on my maroon Member's Only jacket.Just thinking of something that would be different than every one else's mods. Maybe because you all say to not do it, I will...if I do, I'll post pics.

Hey, that sounds like a good idea to me. I'm with ya, anything you can do to differentiate your car from the others is a good thing. My friends, all that matters is whether *you* like the results! Nobody else is making the payments, nobody else is driving the car. People at work make cracks about the crap I've done to my Vibe all the friggin' time - the hood deflector, the flames behind the Vibe emblems on the door, my various LED lighting, blah blah blah. But screw 'em, I dig everything I've done to my car, so there. lol!I think it would be interesting - unique. Not something you see every day anymore on cars. Do it!

Agreed.I field much criticism for both my maple leaf overlays as well as my HID decals. But F them! I like it, and I don't give two craps what others think! On the other hand, though, you DID as for people's opinions.

How do these look, ColonelPanic? I thought about buying and putting them on my car, but wasn't sure how they'd look in real life. Can you post a pic? Thanks...David

I've got a Neptune 2-tone with the bright reflefctive blue flames. Here's one:Probably the best set of pics showing the flames are here:

I was thinking this the other week, raised white letters. I'm sure it wouldn't look as bad as you think. When I think of raised white letters I think of muscle cars and speed, not trucks and red necks. Maybe someone should try it just for sh*ts and giggles.

I'm with Philly on this one. I would like to see what it looks like, I don't think it would look too bad.

Maybe use some sort of removable white paint or the like... I'm sure the stuff used specifically to paint the letters on may stick on there for a while.

I went looking for the white letter paint pen Saturday, but I couldn't find it at the local Pep Boys. I see it for sale on eBay, but I don't need a whole case. Any ideas anyone?

OK.I succumbed to my own curiosity and spent $5 to by a white letter pen at Pep Boys (I found it this time after the salseman said they didn't have any).I cleaned off 1 tire and painted the "Eagle" of my GT's stock tires. I'll have to wait until it's light out tomorrow to tell how it looks. I learned the following:1. If you are suceptible to hand cramps, don't do it this way.2. Tire must be WICKED clean, otherwise white paint turns grayish3. Will probably take 2 coats (see 2).In the war of cheapness vs. doing it right, it would probably be better to actually buy white letter tires.I think it will look OK from afar, but will never pass a close inspection. I'll find out after the 2nd coat. Then I'll take pics.Congrats to the Pats!

Well I will certainly say that it's unique! Doesn't look bad at all. I wasn't sure what to expect of it, honestly. Good show!

Thanks for the feed back y'all. I'm pretty happy with the overall look.If you're thinking about it have a little caution: it looks real good from 10' away, but real close you can see it's not factory lettering - there too much texture in the paint job. Maybe a few more coats...

I've thought about the RWL tires for a while, and just like you showed, I thought they would look good. The people who said "Don't do it, ya redneck" are too young to know what a Members Only jacket is!!! Beat your own drum, brother!!!

It is really hard to find RWL tires out there. The Eagle #1 is so far the only one I've found that fits the Vibe, and they are not rated nearly as high as my RS-A tires. Anybody know of any non-NASCAR RWL suppliers?

Not bad at all! I would recommend Cooper Cobra tires. They have the RWL and they have a similar rating.

I would think that most tire companies make RWL, I know that Firestone, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Michelen(sp) Kelley....actually I can't think of a tire company that doesn't make RWL. From what I hear there is really only a handfull of tire companies, they make different brands and sell them to others.

Thanks for the link. Cooper sizes are all wrong on the RWL...I'll probably need new rims to do this right.Nothing is ever easy. Except pushing the gas pedal a little harder.

Yes it works but it is alot of up keep to keep it that way if you do alot of travelin, you can also use different colors to go with your vehicle.
