I searched in forums and on the web, and can't seem to find a good compilation of quarter mile times/mph for Vibes/Matrix's. Can you help me fill this chart in? Mods feel free to edit this post to keep it up to date. Thanks for your help! 1ZZ 2WD 4-speed auto ........ 16.67 @ 87.6 (Novaresource, G-Tech, 0-60: 8.76)1ZZ AWD 4-speed auto ........ 18.08 @ 75.19 (Edmunds.com)1ZZ 2WD 5-speed manual .... 16.34 @ 90.2 (cohocarl, G-Tech, 11/13/02)2ZZ 2WD 6-speed manual ....15.8 @ 90.5 (Motor Trend, 12/02)2ZZ 2WD 6-speed manual....15.15 @ 98.6 (rasermon, G-tech, 11/16/02, 1/4 tank, 4K launch, 33deg, 0-60:7.2)2ZZ 2WD 6-speed manual.......16.1 @ ??? I just looked in the back of my latest MotorTrend and the Matrix XRS has a quarter mile time of 15.7 sec/92.0 mph. So, the Vibe GT should be just about the same.

Well, I couldn't just sit there with a base 5-speed, and a Gtech Pro sitting in a box while we needed some more numbers....Best I got today was a 16.34sec/90.2 mph. I probably could have gotten a little better time, but I didn't want to waste the clutch any more than I did. Later,Carl

Those G-Tech Pros are awesome. I love mine. I haven't used it in a while but maybe I should now that it's cooler.

Hi Carl, the next time I come over to your place, I'll have to put your G-Tech in my 2ZZ and see what numbers I can achieve. If thats ok with you.

Thanks for replying guys. These Vibe's are running some pretty good trap speeds. My Grand Prix GT is supposed to run high 15's, and trap around 90. GP's are known for their strong bottom end and weak high end. These Vibe's are pretty damn impressive!

go to
http://www.yahoo.com then click on autos. You'll be able to find the vehicles your looking for from the drop down menu and normally there is a performance specs listed there.

To actually pull 1/2 second off of your quarter time it costs a lot, if you look at the supercharger posts they are talkin about mid 14's, maybe. Sure its factory warrantied, but its also $2000 or more, and for the supercharger to give you full potential, you better put a little more money to increase the airflow in and out, so your lookin at another couple hundie for intake and exhaust. yogi

6spd---- about the big difference between models... to take 2 sec off your time you will need about 75-100 more hp

Sub-Zero has talked about launching at 5,000 RPM or just a little higher. On a 2ZZ taking the RPMs up to 8,200 then shifting will give you outstanding times. A 1ZZ should shift around 6,500 to 6,600. I'm not sure where the 1ZZ rev limiter is. It I could shift at around 6,800 to 6,900 with a 1ZZ that would be perfect.I'm going off of the Celica GT making max HP at 6,400. You should all ways shift 400 to 500 RPM over your max HP so you land higher up in the power band. This kind of shifting should only be done when racing.

Here are the pic's after a GTech run. LOL, I had to take about 20 pic's just to capture the numbers. Time and MPH flash about every 1-1/2 sec.

that's a great time that would definitely be over 90mph at the track and a low-mid 15 second time.and i know what you mean about trying to take a picture of the flashing numbers also the rev limiter on the 1ZZ is about 7000-7100rpm. if you have a stock engine, shifting a little before that (like indicated redline) would be fine. if you have breathing mods, i'd probably run it all the way up there.here's another tip, lower the tire pressure in front when at the track!

launch is key..... I went 16.1 then like 16.5 all over the place. the cold weather helped you a good bit man....cold -air = more power

cold air = oxygenoxygen + fuel = power the extra power that you make is much more that the resistance of the dense air. It is not like we are talking about going 140+mph.

Cold air makes everybody run lower times. It's a proven fact. Air resistance doesn't even become greater than tire resistance (from friction) until above 35-45 mph or so. Let's try to keep this thread on-topic.

I would like to know what octane fuel you are running. The label inside the fuel door says to run premium fuel. I asked about this when buying the car and they told me after making some calls that running regular would cause no harm at all to the car, but that performance would suffer, especially after the cam changeover. I have noticed that this is true in my own experience. So I have to ask, are you running 93-94 octane fuel or regular 87 octane for these great 1/4 mile runs in the GT? There are also supposed to be differences in summer and winter gas, too, though I forget which way they affect performance.

BIG question about the 15.1 time.... It seems way off base from all the other times that I have seen for the Matrix/Vibe.... I know the G-tech can be off....or maybe your one of the lucky few that got a "wednesday" car... Did you back up that run at all with a 15.2 or another 15.1 ?? not trying to start anything... just wondering why the numbers are off so far... usually a stock car is within .2 sec of most test claims. I have a feeling that the G-tech liked you that day... OR maybe everything just went right.

Like I said, my launch for the 15.1 was outstanding and was not able to duplicate that for the other two. The 16.34 was bad shifting. The GTech I was using is not mine, it belongs to Genvibe member (cohocarl). Next month (x-mas bonus) I plan on getting the new G-Tech Pro Competition, plus modifications (CAI and exhaust). Maybe next month I can prove that 15.1 is not correct or it may still stand.

Ok this is a few months later sicnce the last post, but what I was wondering, ...Has anyone taken the g-tech to the track for a few runs to compare the simultaneous track times?..Ok then..some of you know that I put a turbo on my 5spd ..The dyno said 210hp...but here in the desert at 3000ft, we multiply by 1.072 for the adjustment factor to make 225hp.. this is to the wheels... and part of me doesnt really care, I am happy to bragg over 200hp to the wheels....Now no one gets their best trak times at 3000ft..and because of an accident on the trak by a t-bird, there was only one run..It was a mere 15.5...and was not a great run, but not a catastrophe either.. the celica gt after me ran at 17.0..I think at this elevation, I can get into the 14's, but now I am still behind a vibe gt...I maybe racing challenged...but everyon should be leary of people coming on with extrordinary time... congrats to rasermon..good job..and I just want to root for our car...

With a force inducted motor, I didn't think elevation mattered (as long as you are getting full boost)?????How was your traction? The strip that is closest to us (about 2 hrs away) is still closed for the winter.

In a turbo book I read befor my project, they even mentioned some airplanes that used turbos for their engines that would kik in only at higher altitudes, just too match the oxygenen intake that they got at lower altitudes natrally asperated..And everyone I know who has a turbo says that they can really tell the difference when they take their car to the coast.....
