little nubby things!

Just curious... The set of Blizzaks I put on now have around 400 miles on them. But on the front, the little nubby things, whatever those are called, are completely gone off the tread. So now, the tread is even all the way across both front tires. The rears still have 'em. Is this normal? If not, what the heck is broken on my car now? Putting the proper pressure in the tires, what is in there, I can't remember. But it's what the label says.

new tires have little nubby things all over them as a remnant from the mold that the tires were made in. The nubs are not part of what makes the blizzaks snow tires, and they wear off. Since the front tires will wear faster than the rears, the nubs will wear off the front faster than the back. All sonds pretty normal to me. Just remember to rotate the tires at a normal interval to keep wear balanced across all four tires.

Ah! Now I see! I haven't had a set of tires with them actually on the tread before, so that's why I was wondering... The little thin hair-like pieces that sick off from where the tread meets the sidewalls yes, but never these nubby things all over the tread. Since these tires are going to wear a bit quicker than what I have mounted to my stock 16's, I'll probably get them rotated every 3,000 miles instead of the 6,000 that I do with the others. Not sure how much that will help, but I'd like to get at least a couple seasons out of the Blizzaks. Plus I get free rotations from the dealer, so I'll just get it done when she goes in for oil changes every 3K.

I want some snow...tired of this "summer in January" crap. Just not 22" of snow. But a good 6-8" would do me fine.

Ahh, we had a little bit of a dusting Sunday morning. Took the Vibe out to play in the snow! The Blizzaks did GREAT! I went up to the forestry and drove on some super hilly, twisty, narrow roads - she did very well! Granted, this wasn't much snow at all, but I'd say with seeing how my all-seasons mounted on my stock 16's don't do too good in this stuff, I would probably have been stuck somewhere. I've taken a few pics...
http://photobucket.com/albums/...0116/And Raging, nothing's as crappy as getting a good set of winter tires and not being able to use them! I feel the same way. At least I was able to get them out in just a little bit of snow!
