Hey Everyone,As discussed last week, we ended up taking the Vibe on our mini road trip this past weekend. It was such a great ride and so much more comfortable.Now to the part that sucks. We came back home late Saturday night and noticed that we had a nail stuck in the front tire (only happens to me). Wife took it down to the dealership yesterday to get the oil changed and tried to have the tire patched but since it’s in the outer tread, it cannot be patched. Does this seem legit?Anyway, it was going to be like $90 for a new tire. Wife went in to talk to the sales guy and we didn’t purchase any tire/wheel protection when we bought the car. They offered us the tire/wheel protection again for $299 for 5 years. Since it’s primarily the wife’s car, we went ahead and bought it since she went through tires on her old car pretty fast. Does all this seem legit? They didn’t offer anything less than 5 years but I am thinking it is just because we didn’t buy the warranty with the car.Please help ease my concerns.Thanks!

outer tread is not a safe place to try and repair. Dealerships are liable if something were to happen, IE patch coming loose and tire going flat.And dealerships as an in house type thing do sell tire protection.You may have to get that new tire... nothing seems to be fishy there.

That happened to me the first week I had my GT but it was in a spot they could plug so I was ok. Anyway, my mom has a plug in the sidewall of a tire on her car, it has been there for four years and she has never had any problems, try a gas/service station instead of the money hungry dealership.

What does tire/wheel protection inlude? Tire road hazard (such as nail in sidewall) costs about $10 a tire when you get tires at Goodyear etc. Protection against wheel/rim damage is worth something. Doubt that it includes replacement of worn tires.

Hungry dealerships aside... I would never drive or let anyone plug the sidewall of my tires. It has been proven unsafe by tire manufactures, your mom has been very very very lucky.

It does include wheel/rim damage as well. Is the price good?She was at the dealership anyway to get the oil changed so that's why we tried to get it plugged there. I've also heard that you can't plug the side wall, but this is the outer tread, close to the side wall.

you can plug the outer tread but you can't patch it. simply cause the patch won't hold to the inside curve of the tire. But most dealerships won't use plugs anymore.and I have no idea the details of those tire warranty packages. The dealership I work at does not sell those.

Cannot plug or patch holes on the side walls. If in the tread patching is the best. Got a piece of metal in one of mine at 600 miles, got it patched and been fine ever since 20,000+ miles later.Plugs work themselves out of the hole eventually too.

I would've had Belle Tire look at it, since they have free tire repairs. At least the one I go to hooks me up all the time.Inder
