All Wheel Drive Rules!

This is the time of year when the AWD Vibe, in northern climates, can accelerate quicker then a GT. If there is snow and ice on the road you will be able to leave the GT eating your "dust". The AWD Vibe will peacefully motor up a steep hill that the GT driver can't climb. Enjoy our superiority, but be humble, as the snow will eventually melt!

because to many people would be wrecking tires and transmissions ramming through 6 gears and lift.

lift is when you run the RPMs in your GT over 6000 and get that power surge, it's a second, more agressive cam being deployed, and that which makes the GT have more power than the base. I bet a GT owner can describe it better, or post up a link to a thread that covers it.

if my memory serves me right, the official Toyota/GM response to that question was that the coupling system on the AWD was never designed to handle the power output of the GT's VVTL-i. This would explain the more conservative 123hp on the AWD as opposed to the 130 on a regular base Vibe.

there is a bit of an inherent contradiction between AWD and a souped up engine with lift... AWD delivers best as moderate and constant acceleration (aka driving like my daddy... ) where lift is designed for impulse and the hehaw factor.now for the ultimate in subdued awd acceleration... that was my old '85 tercel wagon... 1.5L manually engaged 4WD. Stiff like heck to get in and out of 4WD, no HP but it had a low gear and would crawl through a mud bed just about up to the door sills on the highway, it sucked to no end...s

I finally got to try the AWD out too, yesterday, I went some back roads that had a little lake effect fog/ice on them....never slipped a tire...awesome system!!
