first i wanna start by saying this is my first vibe and i love it.ok now for the meat and potatoes of this discusion, i wanna install a new head deck in my vibe. and i have done plenty of head deck before in other vehicles, but i don't wanna mess up my vibe. I know i need a mount kit and maybe a harness kit, but what is that extra grey lil harness on the back of the factory head deck for, what is its main function? also the reason i am asking these questions is my wife has a Chrysler T&C which i did a head deck install on ,and it also had an extra harness that after i hooked up the new head deck we got major feedback, and i don't want this happening to my vibe. so any suggestions are welcome, and also if anyone can tell me what each color wire going to the factory head deck is for i might be able to bypass buying a harness. Thanks

Welcome aboard! To get you started, here's a link to the wiring diagram...
http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...o.gifNow, does your Vibe have the standard 4-speaker stereo, or the upgraded 6-speaker stereo that comes with the Moon & Tunes package? IIRC, the above is for the Moon & Tunes audio setup. My stuff is all stock Moon & Tunes, so I probably won't be that much help, so I'll just answer the one thing I know for sure - where the wiring diagram is. But there are a few great threads around to help you through this. Search around and see what you find! And many good car electronics gurus frequent this site as well, so you should find the help you need. Welcome again, good luck, and have fun!

Disregard the secondary harness. It's sole purpose is "Mute Control." In other words, unused. You need your dash kit, and your wiring harness...I believe Metra #70-2003 or 80-2003, both available at your local Best Buy or Circuit City.Make sure you buy a wiring harness with a blue/white wire. If you don't have that, your amp won't kick in (if you have M&T).Also, you need an antenna adapter: Metra #40-GM10.That should do it. Let us know if you have any more questions!

Welcome to the board! There's a few pics of my h.u. install on this thread:
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=769 Mine didn't have the moons & tunes package, so I think you'll need a different wiring harness than the one I listed farther down in the post, but not sure. The H.U. is a very easy install. If you're going to change the speakers, here's another link for ya.:

You need to somehow connect the blue/white wire of the aftermarket radio the B3 pin of the factory harness: it has two black wires coming from the same pin. Pick either one and splice into it.

I don't know any brand other than Metra, so I can't help you, sorry. There is no "power antenna" per se, but there is a powered antenna amplifier that has to be triggered by the radio (hence the B3 pin), and if you have Moon & Tunes, you need to trigger the audio amp as well.

I'd recommend it.I had a Pioneer 7500 with the M&T amp and had problems with clipping and distortion.Basically, what happens, is your pioneer amplifies the signal. Then, that signal goes out, and goes to the M&T amp, where it's amplified again. This results in horrible sound quality. The FAI-3A converts the output of the pioneer back to what's called low-level output, thus giving the M&T amp a "traditional" signal to amplify. And for the record, everything I know I learned from Jahntassa.
