New (to us) 2003 Vibe GT in Lansing

Bought my wife a 2003 Vibe GT two days ago. It is the Shadow color, and I think the major option is the Moon and Tunes package (according to the 2003 brochure that we have). So far the car is great! I miss having a manual trans car. My wife says she does also. Hopefully it won't turn to difficult when she needs to take the kids places by herself. So far I have changed the oil and filter this morning. I will be taking it to the local Toyota dealer to have the coolant flushed next week. One question I have for you all, I assume there is a K&N filter available for our cars (or equivalent). Because this is primarily the family car, I don't want something as noisy as a cold air intake, but I want the maximum available horsepower, for the least amount of noise. Does anyone have any experience with a drop in filter being worth the money? Or is there a CAI system on the market that is not too loud? Also, is there a performance exhaust on the market that is quiet, but provides maximum HP?Thanks, and I hope I can provide some benefit to the forum.Chris,Lansing, MI

Welcome, Chris! Yes, there is a K&N Filter for the Vibe. There are many online locations that sell it or you can order it directly from K&N. I use one. It was about $55 and I noticed a small difference in performance and it was a little bit louder but it sounds cool. K&N says 1-2 HP. I just ordered a Cosmo Racing Short Ram today. I have an '05 AWD Vibe so I am wanting all the HP I can get. But it will never be as much as you have right now. Congratulations, and enjoy your new Vibe GT!Brian

Hi clwcrw.I installed a short ram this past fall. Previously, I was using a K&N drop-in. Since I have the new intake, I don't need my drop-in filter anymore. Just had about 20K miles on it and was recharged abot 3 weeks before I replaced it. If you're interested, let me know.Dave

The drop in works great, i have around 8500 miles so far(put in 2nd day i got the car)It has a small dirt spot working about 4 inches around, but not dirty at all. When you hit lift is when it gets a little louder than stock.
