I have noticed a significant difference in gas mileage. I have put on just over 3000kms on my vibe and I am getting 100kms less for every tank then when I first purchased the car. Could it be because I have been a little harder on her or is it possible that there is a problem? Any insight would be great.

Wow! Each tank gives you 100km shorter range than the one before? Eventually you won't be able to leave the gas station.Just kidding. I find when I am pumping gas that when the pump shuts off I can still put 2 or three bucks in. Try getting as much gas as possible in next time and see if your range improves.Otherwise there are lots of variables to good gas mileage. I just hold my nose and pay the bill but luckily on midsize 4 bangers it doesn't hurt too much.

If I converted my metric to imperial right, I am getting 21.14 miles to a gallon...or...9.4km to a litre. How does my mileage compare??

On my base 5-speed, the first tank full got me 36 mpg, but the best I've came since is 32. I'm guessing I took it very easy on the car the first couple hundred miles or so (not really to "break it in", but to get the feel of it), and now I'm running it a little harder than before.

I am way off. Are you doing alot of highway driving? I am doing 95% city driving. Would the city - highway driving make that much of a difference?

I do mostly city driving and I get anywhere from 19 to 23 mpg (US gallons).One odd thing I have noticed is that I get better mileage if I fiil up more often. For example, if I fill up after using only 1/2 tank, I get better mileage then if I fill up after using 3/4 of a tank. That to me is strange.

It does appear that city driving vs. x-way driving really makes a difference. My lowest was 28, so we're not that far off if you do mostly hard city driving. It is not proportional throughout its entire range. IE the first half of the gauge is more than half of your fuel. If you base your MPG on the fuel you put in the tank and the miles you drive...you won't have to worry about this.

I always thought that you would get BETTER fuel mileage as the enginge 'breaks in', not worse. I have seen earlier threads on this forum where new VIBE owners complained about disappointing mileage with their brand new VIBES. The answer was always to wait a few thousand clicks for the engine to 'loosen up' a bit. Many replies confirmed this. What up with that?

I know how to calculate fuel mileage correctly and I don't base if off the gauge.I calculate fuel mileage by using one of the trip odometers and the amount of fuel I fill the tank with. However, If I refill after only 100 miles, I get better mileage then if I refill after 150 miles or 200 miles.
