I was so entertained tonight.I got into my car, started it up, decided to look at the mirror to check the temperature. Noticed that my new rearview mirror temp gauge has an ice warning in it!It kept alternating between the temp and "ICE"How cool! This is a VERY crude animated GIF file I created from still photos showing what it did...I'll see if I can get video next time.DAMN I'm easily amused!

AHHH, but was there infact, any ice???? Or is your mirror crying wolf. Just messing with you, if I would have seen that I would have been amused as all get up too.

It's telling him the temp is cold enough for ice to form if it is percipitating outside.

Wow, I thought everyone knew that ice formed below 32f/0c . Now cars have to remind us in the mirrors? What's next? If the temp reads above 100f/37c our mirror will dislplay "HOT"?

Not sure if Raging's does this, but I've found some mirrors that have the temp display (even on GM cars as options) have the ice warnings go off at 37F!

What the heck do you play it with? Whatever the newest RealPlayer spawns but it can't find what it needs to be able to play it. (this is on windoze at work, btw. lol!)

Woo hoo, Linux saves the day! Got home and could view it. Not sure why the Windows version of RP10 wasn't able to find what it needed... Right on!That's pretty nifty man!

Quicktime seems to be able to play it. I tried converting to both AVI and MPEG, but both formats made that stupidly simple movie several megs...

Great phone-movie! I wondered how well those 'movie-phones' worked.I probably need the 'Adult' version of the mirror which, in addition to flashing the 'ICE' warning, also has a voice which broadcasts through the audio system, "Hey Dumb@ss! Slow Down!"

*Ding!* "There is potential ice on the road, please drive cautiously."*Ding!* "It is hot outside, please take caution of mirages"*Ding!* "Hot girl to the right, please slow down and flaunt."

Absotively... You can pick them up aftermarket in a variety of types. Standard auto-dimming, auto-dimming with map lights, auto-dimming with map lights, compass, and thermometer like Ragingfish has... Price varies, but generally the standard auto-dimming type can be picked up for new for as little as $100 or less in most places... More if you want the extra gizmos. Here's a couple of different styles:http://www.aztrucks.com/catego...ake=1h ... ro.htmVery easy to install... Take off your old mirror, put on the new, run the wiring... Ragingfish has a great how-to over here: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=7735 Once you've had a mirror that dims on its own, you won't want to go back, I promise.

It is an option on the Matrix... For the low, low price of $285 you'll get an auto-dimming mirror with compas and map lights. Now that's passing the savings on to the customer when they order a new car! (removed)

Those things always cry wolf. We've had them in several cars. If it's below 32 degrees, it does that. Just that there "might" be ice outside...LOL.

It actually starts warning around 37°....Remember, the road surface is usually colder than the air at the height of the temp probe...Also, bridges and stuff freeze even faster than road surfaces...

I will just look at the temp gauge. If it's cold, there could be ice.

Makes you wonder if somebody tried to sue them because their car didn't warn them it was icy, doesn't it?
