I have a GT and was wondering has anyone taking out the boot around the shifter. I want to take it out and have it re-stiched with thick red stiching. But i don't have a clue how to take it out. any help would be great. and how big is this job in. thanks

Removing it is a small job. Unscrew the shift knob, then grab the shift boot low and pull it towards the shift lever. The edge of the boot has a flexible plastic ring that fits into a groove, you just have to pull it in to the center and get it to clear the groove it sits in, and lift it up, work your way around the perimeter. You can screw the shift knob back on when the boot is off. reinstall is just worrying the bottom of the boot back into place.

the shifter knob just unscrews from the shift lever. Looking down from the top, it unscrews by twisting the knob counter clockwise. Might be on there tight, but it should just unscrew

Why is it that my bezel around the shifter is always popping up a bit, and why can't I seem to get the boot back on correctly? Aside from my being a mechanical mental midget, does anyone else run into this? It's pretty annoying, but it's the only item like that in the interior (i.e., one that doesn't fit properly). Thanks in advance, y'all.Sincerely,

Well, HEY NOW! I unscrewed the shift knob, lifted up the bezel around the boot, somehow reinserted the boot in the edge of the bezel, press-fit everything back in there, and lo and behold, the thing looks like a new car again! How the hell did I do it!? Anyway, I don't want a medal or cookie or anything. Just thought I'd let those who may have run into this know that it can be fixed with a little perserverance and care.Amazing what you can do when you try, ain't it?

Might not be a big repair, but sometimes things like that can be really annoying. congrats.

yep, super easy to take off. i think mine's come off several times. especially since i painted the console parts. much easier to clean too imo.
