Could a TRD/GM SPO 1zz supercharger work on a 2zz with Low Comp Pistons?

Any thoughts? If you installed a rod/crank/and or piston combo on a 2zz which would bring your compression down (10:1??) would everything else on the 1zz OEM supercharger kits (pulleys, hoses, etc...) work?

I don't know if it would work or not, but if it did why would you want to?You'll end up with less horsepower than the GT gets from the factory...and you'll lose lift...

.....I'm looking for more torque. With Blitz's supercharger still in development for the Matrix (not to mention how expensive it is!) adapting a 1zz supercharger seems like a reasonable way to achieve better torque gains. Has anyone seen any other superchargers that would work with a 2zz besides Blitz?

I don't think the 1zz sc will even fit on the 2zz engine. They're 2 completely different engines. I don't think anything would line up with out some major fabrication.I saw a thread about new supercharger for the Celica 2zz's on matrixowners. There were even 2 short vids of it in action. Looked pretty sweet but I don't think the computer will work with our stock ECU harnesses. I can try to search for the link later tonight, if you want.

If you've got time let me know. I know I saw a video with a celica zooming by on a SC, but I can't remember if it was a celica or matrix site. I'll search on my own too and post anything on here.

I bet you could make it work. The engines are not identical, but their dimensions are close, so I bet there wouldn't be much to do from a fabricating standpoint. You would definately have to put in low-comp pistons to do this right, otherwise, bad things happen. I would recommend less than 10.0:1 (maybe 9.0-9.5). Most FI cars from the factory are around 8.5:1.And you wouldn't lose lift......there would just be more air to feed the engine. Also, going to a lower CR wouldn't hurt as much as it would help. You might lose 10HP if you stay NA, but adding the SC would more than overcome any losses. (and you could stay on pump gas)The only problem I see (and it isn't really a problem as much as it is a dilemma) is having someone custom tune a PCM.

Compression ratio is merely the amount that the air in the combustion chamber gets "squeezed" as the piston travels from bottom dead center (BDC) to TDC. For example, if you have a 10:1 CR, at BDC, the motor has taken in 1 pound of air. When the piston reaches TDC, that air will be compressed to 10 pounds. WHen you compress air, you heat it up. That is why high compression engines require premium fuel-with more heat comes the probability of detonation.Detonation is a condition where left over fuel ignites independant of the spark plug firing, caused by high combustion chamber wall temps.I am not for certain, but I am pretty sure lift is independant of CR.

the biggest problem is the intake manifold and throttle body . i personaly cant see how anbody could modify the one piece superchager(molded after the 1zz manbifold) to fit in the place of the 2 piece 2zz manifold.

The 2zz just doesnt throw you back in your seat the way the 1zz does under boost. The 2zz , though, is a great motor and is superiour to the 1zz in so many ways. It is built for performance. It has a forged crank, the rods are beefier. The cam profiles are just awsome....I mean, look at the Lotus elise. It is a 40k sports car, and it is fitted with the 2zz !!Anyway, here are some observation about F/I.
http://www.turbo-perfomance.comThey have a turbo kit for the 2zz celica GT-S..It has a garrett t3 turbo, an intercooler and runs on 5psi. There is no new engine management. What that tells me is that the ECU and injetors will supply enough fuel up to 5 psI. I believe that it is important to note that the turbo they use spools up after 3k, and puts the ECU into open loop while boosting. AND, the air is intercooled.SF always told me that turbos are torque multipleirs. If you gain 50% mor HP, you will also gain 50% mor torque. I would get the SF Vibe GT kit when it comes out. Everything is made to fit , and has been tested to work. BUT I mention the other stuff to say that you could do a custom job and keep the boost at a low 5psi and have a kit on your car as worthy as the TP kit. The blitz SC kit is just too much $$ for what you get......I would get the SF kit.
