Satellite radio answers here please--->

Sooooo, annoyed with the Michigan rap and r&b stations and endless comercials. I did some research on XM radio. I hear they have techno and drum and bass type stations along with metal and classic rock which would be a nice variety...and comercial free, imagine that...in Michigan, finding a station that plays good music without 23 hours of comercials is like trying to find an Escalade with a lift kit and mud tires instead of "spinnaz"....just wont happen.My stock head unit is not XM ready, and I do not want to buy an aftermarket head unit. I know you can get one of those "Roady" receivers or whatever they are to bring in the house and stuff which is what I want. At $10 a month I think I can manage. I did a search and didn't find any answers to my specific questions. 1)What is the price for a total cost of the roady receiver and wires and everything else I would need for a car install.2)How would I go about installing the receiver? Just plug it into the back of my head unit?3)Any other hidden costs I should know about?

I have XM. I had it in my 02 S-10 Xtreme, and when I traded it in I missed it like crazy until I finally got it put in the Vibe. It has 3 good techno stations, 3 good rap stations (1 unedited), an 80's station, 90's station, many good mix stations of newer whatever you call it music (alternative?, pop, whatever), some new age stations, sports stations, 2 comedy stations (1 unedited), semi-local traffic and weather stations, a lot of rock and country stations, and many more. Almost all are 98% commercial free which is awesome and you can listen to the same station all the way across the country without changing the station or trying to find a clear channel with something worthwhile on it. As for the price, I bought an XM Commander which was only a couple hundred $$ installed. They have other models to choose from, but that was the cheapest. As for prices, it is $10 a month, period. No hidden fees or extra charges unless you want 1 of the special stations like Playboy, some comedy talk guys, or XM online which are like $3 a month extra each. Mine was apprently a pain in the (removed) to install to the stock head unit. they had to use 2 antenna adapters and splice them together somehow to get it to connect to the XM receiver, but it sounds fine. BTW, the stations are in CD quality sound which is even better. Any other questions just let me know. jason_damron@yahoo.com or here

They knew it had to be done and told me in advance. I had to pay a little extra for having to use the double adapters, but they did it without a problem at Circuit City.

Alright... Which unit do you want?1) Do you want one that can move in and out of the house?2) How much do you want to spend on the unit?3) Do you want one controlled through the aftermarket radio?4) Do you want to install it yourself?Once we determine which unit you're more interested in, we can go from there.

I want one that you can bring inside and out, or one that just sits in the car. If the one that sits int he car only is cheaper than that works for me. I would like to spend less than $200 if possible. I don't plan on getting a new head unit ANYTIME soon so one that works with the stock unit would be preferable, unless buying a new headunit with the XM built in would be cheaper. I would like to install it myself but I am no electronics wizz so if the instructions are good than I can atempt it, if not than I will most likely need someone else to install.

2 Options fit your criteria:1) The Roady 2. Costs about $129. All in one package. Not as preferred as option 2 because it's not really designed to be moved around much. Even though there's a home kit for it, it will eventually destroy the connectors on the unit, and you'll have to get it repaired. It doesn't have to connect to the radio physically. It has a built-in FM modulator that will work in proximity of the radio. Just need the XM antenna outside, and a 12v outlet.2) The SkiFi 2. $99 on sale for the unit, $69 for the car kit. This is the more preferred idea. This unit is designed to be moved around. It also has the built-in FM modulator, an (arguably) better screen, and more features than the Roady. Later on, you can spend another $50-70 for the home kit or $99 for the boombox to make it work at home.Which one is up to you, but either one, i'd get the warranty on. Especially at Circuit City. It's like $15 for two years.
