I have a 05 with 3,000 on it. We have had some cold nights and when i start it in the morning the first 5 seconds the engine kind of sputters almost like its running on 3 cylinders. but only for that quick second. Then everything is fine. It only does this when its been around 30 degrees or less. has anyone had this happen. what sould i do? is this ok? I thought maybe this was from moisture.. Dunno?

It takes the car a second to start up in the winter. If this problem persists, or if it gets worse, I would take it to the dealer.Inder

if you read the info on the battery issue, then you will know that the crappy little battery that came in the 03/04 years have a hard time starting up in the morning, especially colder days. recently i just replaced my crappy 330 cca battery with an optima red top (720 cca) and haven't had too many probs. still sputters the first 2-4 seconds, but then starts right up like she's supposed to! when the car DOESN'T start, then you have to worry! lol

Sounds normal, like when you get out of bed on a cold morning, you are a bit slow. Just give it a minute or two to idle, you will be fine. I would not suspect the battery so quickly. As long as it started and did not slowly crank, I am talking a few seconds longer then normal cranking. I have had no issues with my 03 battery in our cold Michigan winters.

I've been told Toyota designs their engines to crank 2-3 times before actually starting...some safety feature or something to get oil flowing...Even with the most powerful battery, your engine will always turn over a few times before kicking in...

I have had no issues with my 03 battery in our cold Michigan winters. right. and he has an 05 with the larger battery than what our 03/04's came with. he should be fine because that little bit of hesitation is normal. and at 30F that's hardly cold enough to really affect the battery, especially the new 560 cca in the 05.now when i had problems, it wouldn't even START! or if it did start, as soon as i let off the clutch it died. even with my new monster optima red top, it still takes a few seconds of hesitation before it kicks.
