Abnormal Idle In Drive

On my car(automatic matrix XR), whenever I come to a stop after driving for a bit. The idle sometimes jumps up 100 or so RPM, I can usually feel this in the car as it shifts its weight (Since I have my foot on the brake). Anyone else experience this. My car has 6k miles on it and its an 04.I'm going to take it in, but I wanted to check if I should tell them to look for something or just let them say the usual "Cant reproduce" or "normal operation"Omar

In my 5 speed, if I am stopped and idling in neutral and turn the steering wheel, the idle speed will go up some, I think to make up for the laod that the power steering pimp puts on the engine. It doesn't take much to make the idle go up 100 RPMs, so while I don't know why it would do that in your car, I wouldn't be too worried about it unless the idle speed went up so much that it put you at risk of creeping forward when you need to be stopped.

If I dont have alot of pressure on the brake I'll feel it want to inch forward... I understand the power steering effect, but this is at idle at a stop light with the wheels pointed straight ahead.Another ? for you guys... how loud is your car at idle fromthe outside. mine is hella loud (no mods). My 96 altima I can bearly hear it on, but the matrix, is real loud. Quiet as all get out inside the car, but outside its a diferent story.any ideas?

an intermit spike in rpm seems to be norman in all Vibes so I would assume the same with a Matrix. I know mine does it every now and then also and I realise its usually connected to me turning the wheel a little. Now idling loud? mine does with the CAI and before I had that installed for about a minute or so till it warms up and then its very quiet.

I wasn't saying that your idle bump was a result of turning the wheel. Was just using that as an example of how a small load can result in the computer bumping the idle a little. I remember checking the NHTSA list of gripes about these cars, and there were several about idle surges, although some people reported having idle jump by thousands of RPMs, not just 100. I remember someone saying they were going to sue either GM or Toyota because they were caught off guard and bumped the car in front at a stoplight. I couldn't turn up any threads here about this specific problem, but did find this one over on MV, sounds like what you've got, and that you're not alone, but there was no "fix"
http://www.matrixvibe.net/foru...=3618TRDM4TR1X thought it might be the engine cooling fan cycling on, nick450hp thought it might be a settling action in the torque converter.Edit - Mavrik, Search King, posts a relevant genvibe link below
