Worse, I live with my In-Laws!!!!! I don't think it gets any worse than that, but it's cheaper than paying rent for an apartment here in SD!

But then you have all the maintenance and property taxes to worry about. But in the US you can claim the interest you pay on your mortgage on your taxes can't you? I wish we had that here

You can if you itemize your deductions.I own, and actually like dropping money into my house to fix it up. My last project was a vinyl fence that cost me $1100.

I own too and just put in a new doorwall. Nothing wrong with taking pride in your house!

I agree and do most everything to my house myself and knowing it is done right. Too many jerks out there to take your money, same with vehicle repairs. That project does not sound fun but again, it probably was done right and the way you wanted. What is your next?Mine is tiling the kitchen floor...

I own my own place. This is actually my second place and so far both of them have been "fixer-uppers". There's nothing more satisfying than taking a house from merely livable to really nice. Don't get me wrong, I don't do showplaces, but I do take pride in my work.
