Hi all,I have to replace the light in the front console that illuminates the gear position. I have looked at the do-it-yourself guide provided by Ragingfish (great job by the way) and after calling Toyota (local & HQ) they all said the only way to determine the type of lightbulb being used is to disassemble the front console which cost approx $200+ cdn dollars (They do not list the lightbulb used in the Matrix parts list...real geniuses! ) . Can anyone tell me what type of bulb is used in the front console for the gear shift? Thanks,Andre

I've tried several times to remove that plastic "cover" (the visible part that surrounds the shifter) to clean it and it is near impossible.I've gotta pull that up anyway today to run some wiring for "mystery project" so I'll take a look and see if I can figure it out...

It doesn't list the bulb in the service manual anywhere, Mike?Speaking of the center console, how're those switches holding up?

I wish I could give you the bulb number... But I can't say that I've been able to find it!However, there is a post about it here,
http://www.matrixowners.com/mo...light with a couple PDF's of service manual information about how all that mess is held together around there. I've actually had to *reinstall* the "poisition indicator plate" as the PDF (conponen.pdf) shows twice so far. When cleaning, I ended up trying to clean too much, and one corner of indicator actually popped out. Both times, it came out very easy, but when I had to put it back in, that's another story. It's just a flat piece of plastic which doesn't give much at all, so you have to be very careful to not break it. If it comes out, you're essentially trying to cram a rectangle into the space of an oval, so it is kind of a pain. But, the bulb is right there at the top of the indicator. Not sure what type it is, just a tiny little incandescent. The PDF's fail to mention the type. Next time I screw up and knock the indicator out of place, I'm going to tear into the shifter area and try to replace it that way... Takes much longer, but may work out better in the long run. lol
