Not sure how many people saw Saturday Night Live last night. I RARELY watch it anymore, but I kinda like Ashlee Simpson's music, so thought I'd tune in to see her perform. First song was good. Second song was a disaster. Essentially, she comes out, the band starts playing, all of a sudden, she's standing there while a tape of her singing the first song starts playing. She looks around, starts doing a "hoe-down." Finally, after about 30 seconds, gives up, and walks offstage, while her band keeps "playing..." NBC cut to a commercial.I feel bad for her...honestly, I LOATHE her sister...I really felt Ashlee's music has significantly more substance than Jessica's music -- heck, JS tends to do more covers than original material. At the end of the show, host Jude Law said, "What can I tell you. Live TV." She responds by accusing her band of playing the wrong song. That kinda soured me. Yeah, someone screwed up. Don't blame the band though. Bands never get enough credit, but get too much blame. That being said, I found an article today that confirms, SNL music performances tend to use "aids" more often than we realize:Quote, originally posted by AP »Did 'SNL' Gaffe Expose Simpson Vocal Aid?By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television WriterNEW YORK - Singer Ashlee Simpson's "extra help" may have been exposed when a "Saturday Night Live" audience heard her voice — singing the wrong song — while she held a microphone at her waist.AP PhotoHer record company blamed a computer glitch and she blamed her band for Sunday morning's incident, which cut off her planned performance of the song "Autobiography" on the network comedy show.Simpson had performed her hit single "Pieces of Me" without incident earlier in the show. When she came back a second time, her band started playing and the first lines of her singing "Pieces of Me" could be heard again. She looked momentarily confused as the band plowed ahead with the song and the vocal was quickly silenced.Simpson made some exaggerated hopping dance moves, then walked off the stage 35 seconds into the performance. NBC quickly cut to a commercial."What can I say?" guest host Jude Law said with Simpson standing next to him at the end of the show. "Live TV.""Exactly," Simpson said. "I feel so bad. My band started playing the wrong song. I didn't know what to do so I thought I'd do a hoe-down."Her record company, Geffen Records, said there was a computer glitch. Instead of some pretaped electronic percussion, the recording of "Pieces of Me" started mistakenly performing, the record company said in a statement. But it sounded suspiciously like a guide vocal that's a common — although almost always unspoken — concert aid. Either the singer "lip synchs" by mouthing words to a backing tape or has a live microphone and sings along to the tape, making the voice sound more powerful than it is.Such vocal tricks have been used before on the show, making "Saturday Night Live" not entirely live, said a show insider who spoke on condition of anonymity.A Geffen spokeswoman did not immediately return a call for comment.Simpson's walk-off joins the lore of other unexpected music moments on "SNL": Elvis Costello stopping and changing songs on live TV, and Sinead O'Connor tearing up a picture of the pope.Anyone interested, here's a video clip of the incident:

I kinda feel sorry for her... she will NEVER live this down and if I was her, I'd be demanding who ever hit rewind and play on the tape be fired!

Kinda looks like it might have happened on purpose. The guitar players kept on going and they had a little smirk on their faces. They didn't stop and say, "Lets try this again." Looks a little shady to me.

Too funny! And she tried to blame the band and was quoted once against lip syncing. Love the nervous, what do I do now dance she did. Looked more like a coutry Ho-Down dance. He Haw!!! I do not feel bad for her at all. If you are in that business, crap happens and lip syncing sucks any way you look at it. Both the Simpson gilrs are jokes! And this one said maybe I will just become a movie star! Funny, when I went to school movie star and singer were not options. Looks like I got scammed. Someone needs to tell her people just do not decide to become a movie star, you need talent and usually ties to the business.

And they were probably smirking at her grade-school talent-show behavior like the rest of us.

Humm, lets give our daughter fake boobs, blonde hair and prance her around to people hoping she will make it big so we can retire off of her. I would say she is making money but it will be short lived, thanks mom and dad. Thanks for not pointing me in the direct of a college to develop my brain, just my boobs...

Ahh, how soon we forget the lesson we learned so long ago that can be summed up in only two words: Milli Vanilli. At least it was her own voice, or I would hope that it was. Man, I miss out on so much by not watching the tele! I need to start watching it again, sure does have its moments! That little dance thing was funny.

I think her music is terrible, and no different then any other teen pop music out there (if you call it music).I think she would never have made it if it wasn't for her sisters fame.

Rofl. What the hell was that? She was just yelling.I think she has gotten a free ride off her sister's success for long enough. Put a fork in this one.

I came close to reviving this beauty of a thread, but forgot about it... boooooooooo!!! She was that girl on 7th heaven wasn't she? Probably not the best singing voice, IMHO... On what little I saw of that show, her voice sounded like she just sucked down a full carton of Marlboros.. So I never thought she would sound too great when singing loudly...

The half time promoters really messed up on the performer line up...The line up should have been: Ashlee Simpson, William Hung, and Lindsay Lohan.
