My wife need to take the G2 exit test, I am wondering if she can drive our Vibe or not. I know from the passenger side, it is hard to see the speed.

I don't see why not, there is no law saying the G2 test personal has to clearly see how fast you are going... the Vibe might be a good tool for getting around that haha! Unless they say otherwise and want to provide another car, take the test in that one. Oh and she has done a lot of practice? I failed my first G2 test... I didn't practice much.

I am worried that the officer might be interested in her highway speed.

This must be an Ontario thing! What's a G2 test?

He will have to lean over and take a look lol.yeah ontario is set with a graduated driver's license system.beginners write a written test and on passing recieve a G1 drivers license that limits them to no night time driving and only allowed behind the wheel if the passanger in the front seat has their G/full license. You also can not go on 400 highways (4 lane roads)G2 is the first driven test you must take where you are no longer limited by no night time driving and you may drive by yourself and on 400 highways. You have one year between G1 before you can try for your G2 unless you take a driving course that will then allow you to go in 8-10 months (sorry been a while since I took that one)You then have 5 years to take the full G license driving test which requires you to demonstrate you know how to drive (obviously) and is a harder longer test to take then the G2. The G2 test is about 15 mins were as the G license is 45 mins and requires 400 (were possible) highway driving. Manage to pass that test and you have your full G license and are able to drive. The cost of your insurance is also effected by the G class you have and if you took any driving courses.

Wow, that's an intensive testing system. No wonder every Ontario driver I come across in SK is driving like a maniac ... they're not used to all the space! We also have a graduated licensing system, but it came into affect after I got my license. Basically, you do a written test (which you must be 15 to do), and you get a "learners permit". Sounds the same as your G1 license, except you can drive anywhere, anytime as long as you have a parent/guardian in the passenger's seat, and they have had their license for the previous 365 days (consecutively).Once you turn 16 you can do your road test. I think mine was about half an hour? No highway driving ... just regular city driving, one way streets, parallel parking, etc. In the new graduated system, you have to keep your driving record very clean, or they take away your license. I think you have a probationary license for 2 years. I know a few teens who've had their license taken away for too many speeding tickets while they're still probationary.Anyway, I looked at the DriveTest website (
http://www.drivetest.ca/en/lic....aspx) and it says that as long as the vehicle is in good working order, it is OK for a road test. You should be OK in that regard.

I think the only grounds an examiner can refuse to take a road test in a vehicle is if they deem it to be unsafe. Not being able to see the speedometer from the normal rest position while sitting shotgun is not grounds for refusal. It'd be discriminatory, in fact. And heck, if the examiner is really concerned about it, tell them to sit in the back seat (in the most politically correct way you can muster...)

Well, if the viewing angle is an issue, you can easily unsnap the chrome/black plastic housing from the gauges without any tools, making the gauge cluster visible from just about any position:Just grasp and pull the housing along the steering column outward toward the steering wheel. It's an easy snap fit. I do it all the time to clean the plastic cover over the gauge cluster.

i say let them strain to see it, no way would I be unsnapping parts of my car from its designed state so someone could see the dash. or they can sit in the back seat.

Of course, but her skill is still terrible and she refuse to take road test during winter time, so I have to book the test for next spring.

first time i took my driver's test was in the winter and the snow was covering the roads. i was fine driving in it, but ended up failing because i drove on the wrong side of the road! it was 3 lanes and i assumed the middle was a turn lane. it was, just for the OTHER SIDE of traffic! it was an automatic failure because it was considered wreckless! even though at the time, you could not see the lines on the road covered in snow, and there wasn't a sign visible to lay out the road directions. :crook passed with flying colors and 100% the second time.
