Does anyone know where the rev limiter is located on the vibe?Thanks,Brian

I don't think there is a separate thing called a rev limiter in these cars, I think it is most likely to be integral to the computer program, in the ECU.

There is a rev limit. it is at 64-6500. The manual drivers would know more about this one. The written redline is at 6200, but if you sit in park/neutral, the RPM's can get to 6400-6500.Inder

Are you referring to what Inder gave? Which is the rev limits, or are you asking if there's some sort of defeatable governor on the vehicle?

GM Performance parts offers different rev limit module kits. Each offers 5 different rpm plug-in modules for the rev limiter. They are:5000 series: 5000, 5200, 5400, 5600, 58006000 series: 6000, 6200, 6400, 6600, 68007000 series: 7000, 7200, 7400, 7600, 78008000 series: 8000, 8200, 8400, 8600, 8800I'm not looking to go to 8800 RPM I would just like it to go from 6400 to about 7800. Does anyone know if I would be able to do this with a 7000 series module and not ruin the engine?Thanks,Brian

Why would you want to? Seems to me you go any higher in the rpms and you're just spinning...there's no real power that high up in the band...

...there's no real power that high up in the band...Is that the case? There wouldn't be any real power from 6400 up to 7800? So in the Vibe GT is there also no real power up over 6400 RPM to the rev limiter, even in the lower gears?

The GT has an entirely different valvetrain designed to produce power in that RPM range. The 1ZZ does not. There is not likely to be much advantage to revving the 1ZZ much above the current limit. Not to mention that any noticable gain would be defeated by the risk of damage without extensive modification to the engine's components.

I'm about 99.99% certain they don't sell anything to allow you to rev a stock Vibe to destruction! The Base 1ZZ engine gets a higher rev limiter in some other Toyota models, but their ECUs may not be compatible with our vehicles. AFAIK, the only way to get a higher limit (and I think ~7,000 is as much as could be safe and useful) is with an aftermarket "piggyback" controller like UniChip or a couple of others (do a search for Unichip for more info.)

I have seen 6600 when shifting the auto manually. At that point, the only thing you are producing is noise, and not power. The only benefit i can see is that shifts will fall into a better part of the powerband. I think that if I were going to raise the limiter, it would only be to 7000, and even then I would only rev it there in 1st and 2nd.Plus, if you look at the dyno charts from this thread http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=976&page=you see that while HP is falling off, it isn't that drastic, and the dyno shows 6600.

Okay, honestly, If there was a way to raise the rev limit, i would prolly make it 7000. The reason is because the strongest point on the base vibe is about 4000-4200. that's where the power band starts. And also, whoever said that at 6500, the Vibe is jus making noise. That is a very true statement. The most power gain we get is at about 4200. So if it was possible to make the RPM's drop to 4000 everytime in a race, that would work out great. I know in the 2zz, if you shift correctly, then you will land in lift everytime.Inder
