Go with the 195/65-15 on steel rims. Narrower is better for snow tires. With a seperate set of snow tires with rims, you don't have to mount and unmount and balance your tires every spring and fall, a saving of about $80.00 a year.

i was thinking about this too. i have a friend that says upsizing your tires is no big deal but downsizing could affect the handeling because you have increase sidewall height which decreases your stability. anyone know anything

I got a set of the 195/61R15s on steel rims last year. It was my first year with snow tires and I will never go back to using all seasons in the winter. This size was perfect and I had no problems and if you remember here in Nova Scotia we got 95cm of snow in one day last year---where was I the next day?--on the hill snowboarding! I will say that I noticed a huge difference in handling when I went back to the 16s in the spring but not slipping in the winter is worth the small sacrifice in handling caused by the taller 15s. I say go for the 15s.

I live in the Ottawa Valley, (120kms west of Ottawa for anyone not from around here) and we got approx. 13" of snow last night. I had to work at 6am this morning, so I had to trudge through half plowed highways/roads... Luckily I bought 15" steelies with 195/65/15s in November, and they were the best investment I've ever made... I cringe to think where I would be on the highway right now if I had to rely on my 16 Contis... sheesh!
