So i've been trying to persue Pontiac Customer Care about my clutch being dead at 27,000 miles. I managed to get a 'Joe Garcia' to call me back. He said he would talk to the local service managers and get back to me in a day or two. Four days later, he calls while i'm at work, and tells me to call him back. I call him the next day, and don't hear from him till the next monday!First call was on a thursday. Second on monday, third on monday, and again on tuesday while I was at work. I've called him back the last three days with -no- response. So...from the crap I get from my local dealership, and the runaround from Pontiac Customer care. Is there anyone ELSE I might call where I can get a response from? It's pissing me off that I can't get the car away from the apartment because it can't make it up the slight hill it's at the bottom of.Anyone else have similar experiences, problems?Suggestions? I really wanna fight this one out.

It also shouldn't be dead after 20,000 miles of that driving was spent in 6th gear on the highway going from Georgia to New Jersey

the clutch is classified as a wearable item in the owners manual even. Its no big secret, and just read the racing forum... that GM knows those clutches get abused. They will not warranty them unless there is something wrong and after tearing it apart see no signs of abuse. There is no life expectancy on the clutch.Bob and John both own the same cars... Bob gets to 100,000 on his clutch and about the same on his brakes. John on the other hand burns out his clutch at 45,000 and his brakes were replaced at 30,000Each person by the way they drive, or the conditions they drive in have an effect on how long certain parts last. Now not saying you burned out your clutch but GM hasn't decided to take them off the wearable item list.

You should ask nick to get intouch with the vibe brand manager.when I complain about my clutch acting funny he told me to contact nick and have him pass on the info to him and he would get it fixed for me.He knows there is a problem with the GT clutch, he even told me they had been talking with toyota about it.

Thank you! Just the starting bit of information I was looking for.Pontiac Customer service just called me back, and they're going to try working with the dealership to see if they'll tear down the clutch to inspect it fully and see if it's simply worn, or defective, at no cost. Which is a start... Hopefully Nick can get me in touch with the brand manager.I sadly used the "I hope I'll still be able to buy a pontiac after this experience" line..which seemed to be effective.I really love the Vibe, and I do like the Pontiac lineup.. Stuff like this just gets to me.And yes, I know the clutch is a wear item, and hard driving will destroy it. But with 20,000 miles of driving on the highway, at speed, in 6th gear with no clutch use, it shouldn't be THIS soon. I'm calling foul on premature wear, not the wear itself.

I got a pretty good response from Pontiac when I called them regarding a problem I had with my previous car, a Sunfire. The car was about 10,000 miles out of warranty, still under 50,000K though and something happened to fry out a plug wire and it messed up the distributor cap if I remember correctly. Anyway, it was going to cost about 400.00 or so, so I called Pontiac to complain. I understand it was out of warranty, etc., but wanted to let them know it was my 4th Pontiac and I was disapointed. They (pontiac) called the dealer and ate the parts cost so all I had to pay was labor. I was happy with that. Keep trying this guy if you think you have a case. All they can say is no.

I don't believe it is just a wear item, there is someting else going on. The number of GT and XRS owners with clutch problems is more than just normal wear, and there are enough stories from people who claim to be long time responsible stick drivers that it can't all be attributed to abuse. over on MO, cndXRS said Quote, originally posted by "cndXRS" »The bearing is the only part i heard (spinning sound after shifting) but the tech said the transaxle is the problem. Apparently the problem is with the transaxle developing play between itself and the clutch linkage, this causes the clutch to wear prematurley (thus why they may also replace the clutch). come on GM, figure it out and make it right.
Hm...transaxle too, eh? Hopefully Nick can get me in touch with the Vibe brand manager... Like I said...love the car...just want to get it working!

So Pontiac Customer care calls back, they say they've been on the phone with the dealership. The dealership has determined that it's a worn clutch, and not subject to warranty. Even though they haven't physically taken the clutch apart to visually inspect it. They also refuse to inspect it at no cost, because it's "obviously worn". Premature or not.So, I wait for word back from Nick (and ultimately Jeff), to see if the brand manager can do anything for me.::sigh::
