I'm jus curious for the people that have the 16" alloy wheels if their Vibe sounds like an airplane after about 75-80 mph? I hate this sound and it's been drivin me crazy for like the past 9 months. Someone help a fellow Viber out.Inder

Slow down, yer gonna get a ticket!! Seriously though, mine gets loud at those speeds too (150kph). I think Vibes are not very well sound insulated. I find there is a lot of road noise at any speed.

The speed limits around here are like 70mph on a freeway called I-94, so I'm not doin that much over. . I didn't think that it was me who had this problem.Inder

I have not driven very fast so far (it is brand new), but I already know that this is not the quietest car on the road (noticeable road noise).Solution: Radio louder

I agree that the Vibe is not the quitest vehicle on the road, but with the music playing on our stock or upgraded stereo, I really don't hear it. I am the type of person, where if I hear anyting that sounds odd, I am worried that there is something wrong. The last time I said anything in my Dad's car, it cost him over $800 to repair.

I am of the belief that much of the noise is amplified by the cladding around the wheel wells. This may also add to the tire noise seeming louder for what is minor tread wear. Is there a way to sound deaden behind the cladding?? I have been considering using a high tech sound spray.

Well, I found out why my Vibe was making sooo much road noise. I needed a balance badly! So, I also found out I had a 3-4 inch nail in my drivers side rear tire. So, I got that fixed. Then, I got my tires rotated. So, yeah, I gotta run these BALD tires till like April. O well. Just gotta drive extremely slow.Inder

I had my car in the shop for something last summer, and on the way back home, I was out on the interstate doing my usual 65 MPH. It was making this unbelievable low-pitched sound. Very loud! I couldn't figure out what was doing it, so I got off at the next exit, stopped and took a look. Fortunately, it was just a plastic fastener (kinda like what would hold insulation to the bottom of the hood) stuck in the tread. Guess I picked that little piece up in their parking lot. Fortunately, it wasn't anything that punctured the tire. Yeah, I'd say take it easy for a few months... Or maybe get some real cheapies so you can have some tread for at least a little while....

the road itself might be the cause...there are a couple of streets around here that when you get up to 50-55 mph (also speed limit) the road noise is like you describe. with the window down all the other cars sounds like you are at the nascar race.
