I'll check to see if its still available, but the new system works like this:I get the buyer's last 4 digits of the S.S.# and their b-daythen I get a conformation # from GMi give that conformation # to the buyerthe buyer tell the dealer this conformation # and gets the discount.

We're thinking about replacing our Accord 2 door with a Vibe to haul our new baby. Honda's quality is way overrated. I think we'll be happier with GM.Any chance of a GM in the driveway certificate? BTW, where are you displaced from, Displaced Cheesehead? I'm from (removed) Valley myself.

Or is a Matrix a Vibe in Toyota clothing? There's 2 kinds of years in Dairyland: The Pack is Back, or The Pack will be Back! Then of course there's the cheesehead's nemesis, the chest-clutching Pack Attack, usually suffered while sitting in the LazEBoy in front of the game eating a bowl of string cheese with cocktail sauce.

NortTalk to the dealer about a GM in the Driveway price. It is 4% above GM employee price (GMS). Some dealers will not deal with these on all vehicles. It also depends if you are trading in a vehicle (they may give less as they are making less on the sale). After you have talked with the dealer to see if he will give you a better deal with the GM in the Driveway certificate, I can get you one. They are electronic and require your birthdate and last four digits of your SSN.

Do these certificates have a time limit? I don't intend to buy a Vibe until January of '05 (I think I saw a post saying these only apply unitl December), but if I could use a certificate and someone is willing to give me one, I'd be very grateful.

Well, it would still be all right if they don't expire until after January.Being 18 and in college, money is definitely tight for me, so if anyone can spare one of their certificates, I'd be very grateful. I hope I'm not sounding uptight or anything...

I hope I'm not sounding uptight or anything...sorry, but as of now the gm in the driveway discount is only untill dec. 30, 2004. unless GM decides they still want more market share then they will probably continue it on. it is not a certificate but you give your birth date and last 4 # of your s.s. to me or some GM employee and then we enter it into a GM site. then we give you a conformation # you give to the dealer when you picked out your car.GM empoyees are able to give 2 a month so in december if your still want on let us know.and no you are not sounding uptight or anything. hope this explains things.

That's a possibility. If that is the case, I can try to get one within that time period. Don't they run good deals at the end of the year anyway? Hmm... All right, I think I'll aim for one by the end of the year then. You couldn't tell me how substantial the discount is from the err... "certificate", could you?Oh, and thanks in advance. It is always nice to meet friendly people.

I called a dealer yesterday to get a quote on the Vibe with the GM Driveway price. It came out to about 100.00 less than the invoice price, but he told me that with the driveway certificate, I could not use my 2000 GM points, however; the Edmunds.com moderator (CARMAN) says that I can use the points, so I will call my GM card number Monday to get the straight skinny.

the GM certificate is a GM employee price, $1500.00 to $2000.00 below the window sticker price.it can be used with any and all incentives.when i bought my car I told them I work for GM they gave me my discount price then i got all incentives including my GM cedit card and rebates don't let the dealer tell you any different.

Called GM Card office: I called to find out about the GM points with use with the GMS price and the person stated that you "cannot use your credit card points in conjunction with the GMS price". Yet, several people have stated thay have used the points with the GMS price.(When I emailed the Carman at edmunds.com, he stated that I could use the points with GMS, also. Iguess my only alternative is to go to a different dealer and try again, as my local Pontiac dealer will not accept the points ($2000.00 worth to be exact)

Which GMCard do you have? In August 03, the GMCard changed to not allow points/dollars with GM discount price. It depends on which card. There was the original Blue card, the new card, and the GM extended family card. Many may have used the card prior to 8/03. Currently, the certificates that are generated have an expiration date of 6 months from creation. Therefore, you can get a certificate now if you will use it in the next 6 months.

Thanks michaelgt! That was the exact thing I was wondering about.Anyway, I'm curious - if I do a factory order, am I able to take advantage of current incentives, or am I stuck with whatever incentives are available at the time of arrival? Would making a down payment affect this? I emailed a dealership the same question, but that leads to this one - does this vary dealer to dealer?I'll definitely be going for that Vibe within six months, so if anyone can spare a "certificate" for me, I'd be very appreciative.

I got an answer from the dealer, which is pretty sound to me..."First, when special ordering a vehicle from GM, you are at the mercy of whatever incentives are available at the time the vin# is generated, or when the vehicle is delivered. Your down payment would be used as a deposit."The part about the vin being generated makes sense. You win some, you lose some. So, I might have to hold off on that certificate, just in case. I don't want to risk getting one now and then the vehicle arriving after it expires. Then again, the dealer said it would take 6-8 weeks for the vehicle to come in. In comparison to other times I've seen, that looks really good...

The order to deliver process is difficult to confirm. GM tries to expedite sold orders. However, some dealers will use their allocation to place the order and not indicate that it is a sold order. Additionally, the lead time for NUMMI forces sold order out 4-6 weeks (not real sure on specifics), thus resulting in the 6-8 weeks. The other variable is the model and equipment. Certain items may be restricted to a specific build order, or manufacturer limitation. Let me know as it gets closer to the time you order, I can get you a certificate.

Thanks michaelgt! He just gave me an offer of $500 over invoice, less GM incentives. I asked him what kind of discount I could get with the certificate, but he needs to know what type of certificate it is, what it's called. I told him "GM in the Driveway" and he said that didn't sound familiar. Is it "GM Friends and Family"? Still, $500 over invoice is good, yes? I'm still talking with him...Err.. what is invoice? $15000?

All right, I'm going to try and order early in November, granted a few things go as planned. If it goes right, it should arrive in December, but as long as it's within the certificate time period, I'm not worried. Factory ordering leaves me at the mercy of whatever incentives are available anyway. Here's hoping everything *does* go as planned... I'm already excited, and I haven't even done the order yet.

I would talk to the Dealer and find out if they will give you a date to have the order for a scheduled production week. Ask questions to see if there are any current production restrictions resulting in order delays. Ask questions, the information is available, dealers may not be sharing it all!

Yes, sir, I'll do that. Thank you, I have the disadvantage of inexperience here, so I'm trying to make up for it by asking plenty of questions. I didn't think of those.Err, would I ask these directly before ordering?

Around here, $100-200 over invoice is plenty. The invoice does include all that you see on Edmunds, plus about $30 in misc. charges plus a regional advertising fee of +/- $300. The dealer does get a holdback which is 3% of MSRP not including the destination charge.

Hm... So I need to try and go lower? My inexperience is certainly showing then - I always assumed people typically bought at MSRP.

I work for a GM Supplier and get the GMS price which is almost as good as the employee price. I have 1 Certificate left for the freinds & family this year if someone wants it.
