my groceries fly around

Can anyone recommend a cargo net or some type of device to stop my groceries from flying around the back storage area while I drive? That plastic is pretty slippery.

don't have the mat, just the plastic surface -- the mat would slow the moving around some, but it really wouldn't secure things -- is there anything more like a mesh or net that might attach to those hooks that the blind secures onto?it could be somethign for another vehicle, i don't care as long as it works.

I have a question. Don't they make an organizer for our trunk area? I thought they did. If they do, I would go with that.Inder

Oh, so that's where it is... I thought they may have eliminated it, since I didn't see it around anywhere. Didn't think to look for it in the "active package."Thanks to the part number list on this site, I was able to track it down online... Looks like it can be ordered separately through
http://www.gmpartsdirect.comQuote »GM PART # 12498559 CATEGORY: Pickup Bed AccessoriesPACK QTY: 1CORE CHARGE: $0.00GM LIST: $120.00OUR PRICE: $100.80DESCRIPTION: GUARDEliminate spills and clutter in your vehicle with this leak-proof, high-strength space organizer. It's constructed of polypropylene and has removable dividers to create custom storage spaces. Folds down to a slim, space-saving three inches flat. Molded handle grip allows for easy transport of folded organizer between vehicles. It's lightweight for quick removal and installation while its sleek design is sturdy and easy to clean.I've seen one of these in person... You definitely can't put that much in them. The cargo nets would probably be a better idea, unless you have some items that you'll need to keep in the car at all times. Then the box may be more useful...I have the cargo mat, it does make the drive a little less annoying. Things still slide around a bit, but it doesn't make all that noise. I plan on getting a set of the cargo nets sometime soon as well.

I don't have the active package, but I do have the cargo box, and I find I can put all of my groceries in it easily, and it also helps caption larger things that are actually outside the box (i.e. boxes of pop, water, etc.). However, it doesn't usually sit where the pictures says it does. Mine sits all the way to the back of the cargo area, not up against the seat like it is in the picture. It just depends on the size your wheelwells got molded to.

Thats funny about where it sits though, mine is OEM and it sits right up against the seat backs.

Mine won't fit between the wheelwells, and it wouldn't fit in another Vibe either. It was kind of strange. A different cargo box wouldn't fit in mine, either. So we were sort of baffled, but I have a working setup now so it's okay.

Kari/Ponyota - does the box mount to the floor using the tracks, or does it just kinda sit there? The more I think about it, the more I think I need to get one... It would hold all of my car cleaning supplies/towels/etc that I carry around with me all the time.Right now I'm using that Vibe backpack to put the cans of cleaner in so they aren't rolling around anywhere.

It doesn't mount *in* the tracks, per se, but I use the tracks to keep mine from sliding. It comes with two sets of little "feet" you can put on...one is rubber and one is velcro. I use the rubber because I don't have the carpet mat thing back there. If you have that, then you'd use the velcro, obviously. Anyway, I have two of those little screw-in tie downs screwed in on either side to keep the box from sliding out of place. I'd go take pictures but it's too dark...I'll take some tomorrow if you want.

I have to make a correction. Lisa (wife) just told me that it doesn't fit all the way to the back of the seats. I thought that it did. I guess I don't pay alot of attention to it these days. I actualy don't have anything holding it in. It just kinda sits there. I didn't want to use velcro because of the major sticky backing sometimes makes a mess when the car gets super hot inside. I guess you could also drill a hole in the bottom of it and attach it using the hold down things? I'm going out right now to take a picture of it so you can see. Don't forget, for those interested in making me a offer on the Top and Mid gate spoilers (Abyss) they will sell to the highest offer or offers at the end of the night tonight.

Right on. I was thinking if it mounted to the tracks, I would end up having to cut through the mat or something. Velcro... goood!

Notice where the box hangs up on the inner panels. Even though it doesn't go all the way back against the seats the space can still be used for small packages or whatever you want to store back there. Hope these pic's help out.

That's where it's supposed to sit, as per the photo in the accessories catalog. Mine doesn't even go back that far, because my wheelwells were molded too narrow.

Did your cargo box come with your car or did you buy it seperately? Mine has GM molded into the plastic next to the carring handle.

Mine is GM also and it came with the car...I ordered it with the car. I thought at first they had given me the box for the Aztek, but we compared the two and I definitely have the Vibe box, it just doesn't fit.

I bought my Vibe used, so the first owner paid for the carpet cargo mat and floormats. I often use the floor of the back seat for groceries, if I have only a few items. The cargo carpet mat helps keep heavy cargo from sliding, like 50# salt blocks, but not the groceries, as you mentioned. Almost immediately, I went to a nearby Dollar Store and purchased 3 small plastic 'milk-carton-type' carriers, and a set of velcro ties to link them together. Total investment $4.00 (3.00 for 3 cartons and $1.00 for the velcro ties). I probably would've purchased more that day, but they only had three matching (red) ones. These will each hold a plastic gallon of milk or juice and keep it from sliding on the carpeted cargo mat surface.(Larger 'milk-carton-type' carriers are also available, of course.)When I don't need them, I just put them in the garage. Later I purchased the (Toyota) cargo net set on eBay for about 1/2 what GM wants (I paid around US$30 including shipping.) I leave the large cargo net across the back, and the 3-milk-type carriers to one side. I've NEVER used the small side cargo net that was part of the set. These containers hold all the requisite junk much better, and don't slide on the carpet side of the rear cargo mat.I also have a 6'x8' gray plastic tarp that I use when I transport my lawnmower. (shown folded up in it's original packaging). More info about it here:
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=9707Someone also mentioned that the cargo carpet is pretty useful when turned carpet-side-down, especially for wet or dirty cargo. With cargo net in place With cargo net down Detail of velcro tie

Another source is what I bought my mother for her Buick Rendezvous, she too complained of this. She found it, I bought it for her. At Bed Bath And Beyond, there is a black fabric organizer for around $20. It will hold three paper bags upright, plus it will fold flat when not in use. She loves it and it works for her.

Another alternative is a molded cargo liner like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...63690I bought one used from a fellow genviber (ashamedly, can't remember from who) but it's great. Easy to take out and clean and has a nice, semi-grippy surface that keeps stuff in place (esp. grocery bags.)Wish there was a cover like it for when I fold the rear seats down. Sure would make hauling stuff (i.e., lawn and gardening-related) a lot cleaner.

Here is what we use...works great for groceries. If it doesn't fit under the net little Snausage holds it down in her teeth. We bought the cargo net for under $10 at k-mart.

i have the gm floor mat and cargo nets (dealer chipped in the nets when i bought the car) and they have worked very well, especially for groceries. The smaller side net is great for little stuff and i tuck it away right behind the wheel housing.i have the large net in the far back position, right by the tail gate. It holds a ton of groceries when you allow it to stretch.talking of stretch, when i need to get something bigger in the back of the car (that won't fit in the net), i just pull the net up and slide it under (i don't have to unhook the net too often)i did get a collapsible 'trunk organizer' (Lewis N. Clark, 25$) at ebags.com. I find i don't use it that much for every day driving but it's great for trips and for when i want to throw a picnic in the car It's very roomy, with mesh pockets and a zippered lid when needed. the dividers inside can be arranged in more than one way. It collapses to a very small (and flat) size when i don't need it.all combined, it's proven a very convenient rear cargo solution ( trunk organizer at ebags.com:

I bought a set of Bungee cords from Target ($10) and use those to tie things down. I keep them in the little floor compartment near the back seats. I am thinking of investing in a cargo matt and net. I also like the plastic organizer, especially now that I see it folds down when not in use. How difficult is it to fold down and back up again? Is it flimsy or is it pretty solid? This forum is so awesome for helpful information!!!Proud new vibe owner.

run a bungee cord between an anchor from one side to the other. Run the bungee cord through the handles of the plastic bags.

I used one of the straps that came with the car for the back and had one go diagnally across the back and it holds the grocery bags fairly...well, but im still looking for a big enough floor mat to cut and put back there.

I have a very large athletic duffle bag that I use in the back. It works great for groceries, especially since I live up on the fourth floor of my apt. building. I can carry lots of stuff in that bag with one hand. It also really keeps everything in place in the trunk, preventing items from sliding all over.
