I just tried to buy a rear main seal from my local Toyota dealer (well I called them to check stock). They were real buttheads about it and told me to call Pontiac and that there are differences and that he doesn't want to put me in that situation of having the wrong part. Then the guy hung up on me. What scum!

Washington Auto Mall's Toyota parts department is horrible! This isn't my first experience like it!

I'm mad now!

Isn't there supposed to be 3 quarts of oil in the tranny? There was about 1.

It shouldn't be 3 qts. The 2009 is only a 2 qt capacity.

As far as the toyota dealer, just tell them its a matrix.

Got it out. It was phc valeo glq ty-17.

No grease on shaft for TOB, no grease on fork pivot, reused TOB, reused pressure plate, clutch "blowed up".

Wow! Very interesting. I've never seen a disc blow up before.

Hey Ken, See you finely got into it. Hopefully everything came apart with out issue.
Looks like rookie night under the tree. What you have is a pressure plate that was not reinstalled properly. It was probably not marked for reassembly and tightened in a circular pattern. That causes the pressure plate to warp an not grip the disc evenly which makes the disc throw the damping springs.
Just remember you can 't be to through or clean on assembly. Keep the progress reports coming.

I was going to put it back tonight. But cannot. I had the parts store order me rear main seal. It was supposed to come in this afternoon. I told him pontiac vibe gt fwd 6sp 2zz rear main seal fel-pro part number bs40665.

You would think that's what they would have ordered. The ordered a 1 seal, feel-pro bs40661.

WHY? WHY? WHY WOULDN'T THEY ORDER WHAT I TOLD THEM TO ORDER?! Idiots!

Now I have to wait another day and the neighbors will have another day for their anger fester!

Oh by the way, how do you keep the flywheel from turning when I'm cranking on it? Shove a screwdriver into it?

Would the torsion spring popping out cause my symptom?

It's 95% done. Just need to reinstall the battery and airbox stuff and plug everything in. The alignment tool is useless without a pilot beating to stick it into. Even so, I stabbed it in on the second try. My wife was a great help jacking the engine up and releasing it slowly (not so slowly once and almost took my finger off and poke out my eye at once) and sticking bolts into motor mounts.

Anyways, I'm waiting for my redline mt90 before trying to drive it.

Thanks for all the help! I hope this solves the problem!

Parts guys don't usually know what's going on. I order online unless I can get them to specifically order something by part number. If it's cheap locally, I check the new part vs. the old because customers will sometimes return a part in the wrong box.

As for ordering from Toyota, don't say the "P. V." words. Ever, unless you know the guy. They'll fight tooth and claw sometimes. If you can, try getting someone to let you have their Toyota VIN for the "VIN-patsies."

Okay, I got it all buttoned back up and changed the oil, filed the tranny with redline mt90, and fired her up. Still have an obnoxious exhaust leak, but it runs and drives now. When I applied the brakes the first time, the abs came on and it ground to a stop like the abs does. Then the ABS light came on and stays on. Braking is normal now, but the ABS light indicates that ABS is disabled. Any ideas why? I reinstalled the wheel speed sensor when I put the hub back on, so that should be good to go...

The rotors are quite rusty, could it be grabbing unevenly? I don't know. Open to suggestions!

Thanks guys, for helping me get her running!

Need the code to diagnose, honestly.

oh will the ABS light give a code? There is no CEL.

the only thing I did was, pull the sensor of of driver's corner, pull the hub out with the axle as one piece, tie the sensor up with my brake caliper to the spring, left it alone for 3 days or so while I was figuring out the tranny, then I reinstalled it. It might have rained on the axle/hub once, but should that make a difference? On the first drive, abs kicked on, then shut off and the ABS light came on. So whatever it is, is gotta have something to do with the sensor on the driver's corner?

Yes the abs light being on indicates a code. It could have to do with the wheel speed sensor. I would double check any wiring you messed with.
