AFA anything scenic, I really only know places in Anderson which is about 45 miles NE from downtown. So anyone else with suggestions in the Indy vacinity that meets the afore mentioned suggestions? No worries! It sounds like the dates weren't working out anyhow, right?I know it's a lot to ask, but if anyone in Indy (or the 'burbs) is able to do so, could you check out a park or two over the weekend, or some time next week? Might give us a better idea of what can accommodate us.

I'll check some places in Anderson just to check, but I'm also checking on a place in Fisher's which is just outside of Indy.

Any Indy ppl familiar with Sahms' Park in Fishers? From what I can remember, there are two entrances. One entrance lets in to the section that has the golf course and the pool. The other lets into the actual park. I've never been on the park side, but I've been on the pool side. The pool side has pool parking right in front, but they also have a pretty decent overflow lot on the side that IIRC, one side is lined with trees. It is a public park and there is no adminssion to get to the parking lot. This could be a decent location. If I have time, I'm going to try and make it there tomorrow to give it a look at both entrances and see if it could be a possibility. Here is a link that shows nearby hotels and dining. http://visitindy.com/indianapo...c&p=1

Excellent suggestion, Wolfman! Nice backdrop for the ponta2147's in the bunch (j/k ponta, this preference includes me, too.) Tapping into the NE side's shopping, restaurants, etc. Close to highways, hotels. Hopefully you can get there tomorrow, and confirm the entrance questions. Thanks again for doing this, it is greatly appreciated! I personally have not been there, but am familiar with the area where it is located.

The likelihood of us being able to attend would be increased the farther away it is from July 4, since I work at a fireworks store, but we could possibly be interested if the date is right. All Indiana State Parks have that entrance fee Kostby posted for Fort Harrison...or if you are an IN resident who uses the parks a lot, you can buy a yearly pass that gets you in all year.

Do people return a lot of unused fireworks the week after? Looks like July 10th would be the closest date to the 4th. With the 17th still seeming like the front-runner. It seems we do not have a lot of interest in the June 12th-13th weekend. You're on the list!

ft. harrison is a huge park and it's really pretty. it has some restaurants nearby, but i don't think there are any hotels close to it.

LODGING...Entering 'Hotels near Ft. Harrison State Park, Indianapolis, Indiana' into a popular search engine will show you two concentrations of hotels within a 10-15 minute drive. There are a number of popular chain hotels priced near $100 per night (before taxes, current rates, which could go higher in the summer, especially if there is another large event in the area) located near Castleton I-465/I-69 area about 10-15 minutes north, and a smaller number located in the I-465/I-70 area, about 10-15 minutes southSimilarly, there are no hotels right at Eagle Creek Park on the west side, but there are hotels on the northwest side of Indianapolis, located near I-465 and Meridian Street, I-465 and Michigan Road/421, I-465 and West 86th Street, I-465 and West 71st St.If those prices seem expensive, yes they are. Don't forget that, like most major cities, Indianapolis adds a variety of additional innkeeper fees and taxes to your 'published' room charges. And yes, there are cheaper rooms available. Be certain to read reviews posted by travelers on recent visits. Indianapolis is a big city, and lower hotel prices generally mean less safety. If you're coming from far away, and trying to do this on a very tight budget, let's see if there are GenVibers in the region (many of whom have already posted in this thread) who would be willing to open their doors, guest rooms, couches, back yards, or porch swings to you. I'd volunteer my home to those coming from the north via I-65, but we're planning to move this summer, and I couldn't guarantee there would even be a parking space for you overnight.

Being a GenViber that missed out on the "glory days" of big meets (heck ALL meets), I'm excited at the prospect of this coming together. Putting faces to screen names, and talking all-things-Vibe to peeps like you guys will be fantastic. And it'll give my wife a break from having to listen to me go on and on about it (for the past 4 years). Glad it's taking shape. Especially since it's drawing folks from, what, 5 states already? 6? Love it.

No, we're busy because people think there's going to be some kind of big half price sale and there isn't. LOL Plus they want more of what they bought and shot off the weekend before. The 17th would still be dicey, because we usually stay open for a few weeks afterward and I have to take the work while I can get it. So that makes us a "maybe" I guess.

Well, I guess there is just one entrance to the place. Why in the world I thought there were two, who knows. As you enter the park, there is a long stretch of parking and that is where the shelter area and tables and such are. Those will be the earlier pics. The later pics will be of the huge lot next to the pool. I don't think they have everything totally set for the summer quite yet as the golf course was getting fixed up and it appeared that they were working on the pool area as well. I tried getting pics of the basketball, volleyball and tennis courts too, but not sure how well they turned out. But, there is no charge to get in and there are tons of lodging and restaurants around here as well.

Quote, originally posted by LavaIlliniVibe »Where is the Vibe PowWow going to be? When?Well, with Wolfman posting these photos, the "where" just became Sahm Park in Fishers for now. Unless there are any objections. The "when" seems to be shaping up as the weekend of July 17th-18th!The park's site: http://www.indygov.org/eGov/Ci....aspxAnd after clicking around, they state only a few free picnic tables are available as "first come, first served." They have rental rates for a couple covered picnic areas. Sahm #1 is $125, Sahm #2 is $100, and Salm "Picnic Knoll" is $65, which makes me believe it's not covered.I'm assuming we would just bring our own portable tables and whatnot, in an effort to stay close to the cars, but if there's interest in trying to get a covered area rented, we can take up that conversation.I entered in the dates of 7/16-7/18 on the "event calendar" and the only item it returned was a Pet Giveaway function at the local PetSmart (must be a calendar for the Indy area in general), so we are good there. Wolfman, any other info we should know about? Looks like your suggestion is strong! I noticed there was another park directly East of Sahm, North Eastway Park? Maybe this is what you thought was the "other entrance?" The description below states Sahm is the park's latest name, it used to be called "Northeastway."Sahm ParkIndianapolis, IN 462506801 E. 91st Street(317) 915-0336 (office)(317) 849-2227 (pool)Chad Lawrence, park managerHOURSDawn to DuskDESCRIPTIONFormerly known as Northeastway, the park was renamed William S.
