Also, they run coupons from time to time and I've seen this as low as $15. BTW: The oil they use is Kendall GT, which is a good quality Connoco-Phillips synthetic blend. I'm not sure about the filter...may want to check that at BITOG.At that price I believe it would probably be good ol' 100% dino oil.

Nope...just checked Firestone's website and it's Kendall GT-1 (similar to Conoco-Phillips' synth-blend version of Motorcraft). At $25, which it's listed for now, it's not a bad deal...but for the same amount you could do Pennzoil Platinum or Castrol Edge w/a $5 filter (Bosch Premium, PureOne, Denso/Toyo,) yourself.

No, because you recomanded them, risk that, just go for oil change and let me know what they put in !!!!! I do not want to be bad, but I believe if you will not request the oil grade, you will end up with 5W30 ! because that is recomanded by manual (in my case 2010 manual) YOU HAVE TO REQUEST THE OIL GRADE because the poor kid at the oil line, doesn't konw or care !

No.Why? Because it will not harm the engine... Maybe I want to see of they changed their practices since you were there. You have to remember, dealers did not have a lot of time to learn about the "new" Vibe generation as Pontiac is now gone. If it was around for say a longer period of time, they may of been educated. On a side note, the dealer provides oil changes to many makes and models, not just specifically GM models. Not knowing is different than not caring. My questions is did you ever go back to the dealer and take them up on their offer of draining out the 5W-30 oil and putting in 5W-20? It seems they were more than willing to accommodate you/resolve the minor issue...Do not get me started on dealers... Few years back Noonan Pontiac left the oil cap off after changing the oil on one of our vehicles. And you should see what I went through when purchasing our 2009 Vibe. Comparing those 2 experiences to this, nothing...

Then it looks like it must not be much of an issue to you if you did not take them up on their offer. Some of the other members may of given you the best advice; performing your own oil changes since trust seems to be an issue.

I got a mailing from my Chrysler dealer - buy 1 LOF at $29.95 and get three free within two years. I took them up on that deal. No doubt they are looking for other service opportunities but I only put about 4,000 miles a year on that T&C so it is not likely to need much over the next couple of years at which time it will probably have 20,000 miles on the odometer. We probably could live without a 2nd car but it was a bargain and insurance on a 2nd car is pretty reasonable.

Quote, originally posted by iucu »Is this a sarcastic question ?It is a very valid question. You started a thread about an expensive oil change, you were given information, went ahead and decided to go to a dealer. They did not put the correct oil in and you made a big deal about it, and even went as far as saying they can write whatever they want on the receipt while not using the correct oil. You even wanted to drain out the oil they put in. Some came to the conclusion that you were either were going to start doing your own oil changes and or find a different establishment to perform maintenance. Why would someone go back to the same place of business again if they were not happy with the service (if it was that terrible in the first place).

I stated that 5W30 will not hard you engine. In your posts you never mentioned 10W30, you said they put in 5W30 instead of 5W20. Yikes...

Just a side note: If you don't feel like changing your own oil during this crappy time of year, Firestone is running their synth-blend oil change special again for $21.99. Here's a link to the coupon:Firestone Kendall GT1 Oil (5qts) & Filter ChangeGood until 01/31...though it seems that they run this special year-round.
