well we should all show our loved ones every day we love them. But valentines day is the markets way of making a little extra money. Thats what its really about. I find Wal-mart crowded on the usual days... yesterday though was about as bad as christmas... ching ching for store profits.

I totally agree. I think it's far more meaningful to do something on a random day for the one you love. Still, I would like just once in my life to do the cheesy, pointless thing.

I'd like to say from a female side, is that I also think Valentine's day is a stupid holiday. I don't think there should be a special day to show your appreciation for a love one. I say appreciate what you have whenever you can. Why make a holiday to pressure people to do things on that one day and why make a holiday that those who don't have a special someone have to deal with it all day? I say throw out this dumb holiday!

I feel your pain, buddy. I havn't had a meaningful relationship since I split up with my ex. I'm not too crazy about the single life. It has some good points, however. Try going out to eat by yourself on valentines day. People look at you like you're a freak. But you're only 25. There's lots of single girls your age. What's the problem?

It does have its good points, yes. I might just have to try that dinner idea. Any more, I'm not opposed to looking like a freak. I've found myself to be rather good at it, actually. You'd think there are lots of single girls my age, huh? Well, actually there are. But around here they're either completely stuck up, stuck on themselves, party animals or they're like me and don't enjoy wild parties so you just never get to meet them.

Heh, if that's supposed to make me feel better... I'm sure it doesn't. It's just a matter of patience and perseverance, I guess.Something amazed me this morning. Maybe it's just the weather or maybe the whole attitude toward this day has cooled. I work across the street from one of the larger flower shops in town and usually on V-day, they would be swamped. today the parking lot sits largely empty.

Ah, here I am back here in this thread again, what a surprise . Greetings to all my fellow disgruntled GenVibers. Feel free to grumble, groan, complain, etc. all you want about this holiday whether single, married, dating, or whatever. For me, this is probably the most hurtful day of the year, New Year's Eve is second, mostly because I hate being alone, but I suppose I'd hate being attached to the wrong person even more. What I hate the most though is the search for someone who is not the wrong person and this day reminds me of that, so I hate it. It's the one day I can rightfully be Oscar the Grouch. I'm a little too big to fit in one of those galvanized steel garbage cans, but if I could fit in one, that's where you'd probably find me today. With the Bacardi 151 and a really bad attitude.Quote, originally posted by millster »Still, I would like just once in my life to do the cheesy, pointless thing. I got to do the cheesy, pointless thing in only 3 of my 29 years and for me it was fulfilling and overrated at the same time. While I enjoyed being able to spend some special time with someone I loved, I agree that it gets a cheapened feeling in a way because it is made obligatory by being a holiday. Are you really showing your love for someone if you are obligated to do it? So I like the idea of making ordinary days of the year special days by acts of true love and affection that you do in your own way because you want to, not because you have to. Yet another reason why this day sucks.

Now I'm getting bummed out. I really wasn't thinking about all this Valentines Day crap until I started reading this. Maybe I'll go stir things up on the political asylum. That will make me feel better.

And I don't want to hear any more phoney but well-intended sappy stuff like "Oh, you'll find someone out there" or "the right person will come along". Horse puckey I say. It's already been 28 years, I'll be long dead before any of that comes true. I sure hope I'm wrong on that one, but I am a realist afterall. So please, no sappy BS attempts to try to cheer up people like me in replies to this thread, it's borderline patronizing and we know it, we just respond kindly because I think we just don't want to expend the effort to tell some well-intentioned do-gooder to go stuff it where the sun don't shine. If there is anyone else out there who dreads this day, even if just for this year, as much as I do, please share your thoughts. It's our day to tell the world to go take a flying leap, so have at it. Well I think im in the same boat as you.....I cant stand any of it either, and like you Im a realist myself in the fact that there is no one for me as well...Im only 28 yrs old and already I refuse to date anymore because the women here want only people who are filthy rich, and most of the others have too much Drama in their lives for me to deal with. Plus I'm not the most attractive person in the world either, I already went off on a couple of people at work today who tried to spread their little cheer to me... And on this day, I wore all black today as well.So with that being said, Happy Black Wednesday Brother.....

Oh, yes, I was having such a good day when I wrote that post last year. But I still feel its true for the most part.So you've got lots of gold diggers down there too huh? I'd like to buy an abandoned gold mine, give all those evil money-grubbers a nice shovel, and stuff 'em in the mine. "Here ya go--grab all the gold ya want!" I have no use for women like that. I agree with the comment that Charlievibe made here last year to my comments that not all women are like that. I just think that most of the women who aren't like that are already married. Since I'm not one to be a homewrecker, I'm really not interested in married women. I think God slightly frowns on that.I can't say that I'd consider myself to be particularly unattractive, either. I'm a little rounder in the waist than what would be considered ideal, but a wise person would understand that that is only a temporary thing and can be changed. I'm not broke, either, but I won't allow myself to be driven broke by a greedy, selfish woman. Most of all, I'm not convinced that there's no one out there for me. I just think that the woman I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life with is currently hiding in the bunker that Saddam Hussein wishes he'd have used instead of the one that he did. I'm trying to have faith that my journey to finding her is making me a stronger person and preparing me somehow for when I do finally meet her. But this is one miserable journey for sure.

You'll have to make the journey into the Asylum alone this time. When I go into that forbidden land I start to have seriously negative cardiac events and expressing my feelings there gets me into lots of trouble.

There's nothing wrong with an older-than-30-guy! To me, a little gray is sexy (don't hide it, guys!) and oh yes, there's the experience thing; most are mature enough to have all that player crap out of them...if they even had it at all. Mine is 8 years older than me. And I'll be damned if he ever refers to me as his "old lady".
