I did nearly the same job in the air force, and without an additional 2 years of school to get your Airframe and Powerplant license and schooling, you won't get the same job. If you want the same job you have now, get to a school ASAP. Otherwise, grab any "security clearance" job you can. I found a test technician job testing and refining occupant detection systems. I have been out a year, and now I'm totally screwed. Thank you Force-Shaping!If you can, get a reserve-technician job. Civilian paid when not activated, and active duty paid when activated.I got out of the Navy as an E-4 Avionics Technician. Flip-Side is correct, get your Airframe and Powerplant license before you get out if, you want to stay in aviation. I was in the same boat when I got out and never did get back into aviation. If you're willing to live near the military, there are plenty of government contractors that you can probably get a job with. They love ex-military. Start job shopping before you get out. You might want to consider staying in SD for a while with your wife. Getting that first job is the hardest. Let her get her degree and move later. I ended up staying in here in Virginia just because of the jobs that were available. We have lots of military here. I started out in sonar, and now work in navigation. A security clearance really helps. too. Good luck.
