41 mpg in all highway driving with the cruise control on and driving at/near the speed limit. Way to go Corolla engine!!!
When I wanted to make up time and drove 60-80 mph, I got 35 mpg.
When I did a combination of stuck in commuter traffic and using the cruise control when the highway cleared up, I got 37 mpg.
I was thrilled to get the 41. In your face Hyundai advertising!!

33.6 mpg from Chicago to just outside Indianapolis!!! My new record!!
Not bad for half the trip needing to go 70-75mph, and needing air conditioning (though I turned it off for hills and for acceleration).
We shall see how this tank (Indianapolis to wherever east of Dayton I need to stop for gas tomorrow) fares!

I actually did hit 33.9 on the next tank- going between 68-73, coasting down the big hills and turning off the air going up the hills or accelerating. Haven't come anywhere near there since, mostly because I was in WAY too much of a hurry after that point (nine hours of driving a day three times will do that to you

) At least I don't have to drive that much again until July 6th!

Going to the Erie meet at posted speeds (+ 2 or 3 mph over) and using A/C, I averaged 31.85 mpg. I ticked off some people by keeping revs at about 2000 when accelerating.
Coming back from Erie at posted speeds (+ 2 to 3 mph over) and using the A/C after the outside temps reached 80, I managed to get 37.97 mpg and PO more people.

Great job Ron. You have posted the highest MPG's of any of us with the 2.4L engine. Sometimes it's worth pissing off some other drivers to achieve these numbers

Great seeing you again and stay healthy (your Vibe too) so we can do this again next year somewhere
FYI. On my latest tank the first 200 miles were with the A/c On (was 95-100'f ) and on th4 way back it was off (windows & sunroof open

) . That first 200 miles lowered my numbers or I possibly could have beat my all time high of 37.3mpg. Oh well ..................... maybe on the next long road trip

Dropped to 23mpg and 24mpg driving around the Virginia suburbs and highways of DC for a couple weeks- hills, fast merges, crazy drivers, and blasting the AC as the temperatures went up over 100 degrees with multiple passengers in my car. It hurt to literally drive 100 miles LESS on a tank than the previous record, but that's what the bigger engine's available power is there for, if I need it (and I did, because I had to drive pretty aggressively to get anywhere).
Back up to 30.6 and 30.7 on the way home- had to deal with hills and still constant A/C, as well as staying above 70mph for the whole trip. But I consider anything over 29mpg a victory.

Not to rain on anyone's parade - but I'm pretty sure I've got the best average mileage with a 2.4 (auto) from anyone on here. From what I can tell, I've only been beaten by one or two 1.8L's on Fuelly for the 2009-10 models. My overall average since new has been 31.9MPG over about 67,000 miles and 220 fill-ups.
You can see all of my stats from the link to Fuelly in the link below - all recorded since new - but some of the more recent fill-ups when not towing have averaged (all in U.S. MPG to keep things fair):
July 13th 38.2MPG
June 29th 38.3MPG
June 27th 35.6MPG
June 20th 38.7MPG
When towing my boat, I hit lows of 25.7 and 24MPG. The 24 was coming home from my cousin's place, and I just left it in 4th gear about 99% of the time to keep the transmission from doing so much hunting. It cost me a little bit of gas, but a lot less wear and tear on the tranny. The boat's not all that heavy (probably was around 800lbs loaded plus 4 of us in the car), but it's notably larger than the car and acts like a bit of a parachute behind me...
So far this year my average fuel price has been $4.79/gal, and more recently has been as high as $5.33, which tends to create very disciplined driving habits - at least for me! The majority of my driving is highway, and my speed rarely tops 65MPH. A/C usage is only when I really feel the need, but it does get some use with the weather we're having this year.
Normally I figure this all out in metric here - but I converted it to U.S. figures so it made sense to most of our more southern members... That Fuelly site makes it easy fortunately.

Remember - I have the 2.4 1SB, not your light weight 1SA 1.8 manual...
Technically I should be able to do that - but once the gage reads "E", I don't like to push it quite as far as you have. I don't really trust it, nor do I want to purposefully run out. I think yesterday I went about 675 on 41.XX litres, but even at that point it had been below the "E" mark for the last 25km or so. I know there "should" be gas in there according to what it takes to fill, but I guess I'm just not daring enough.
My first new car was a 1995 Dodge Neon with 2.0L SOHC and 5 speed. It only had a 42L tank, and once I went 678km and it took 41.5L to fill! I really didn't think I'd make it to a station, but it never quit or complained. It was a very quiet drive however, as the 3 of us in the car were just listening for the sputtering to happen. Late night on a long weekend in the country - everybody closed up early and we weren't prepared! At least we made it back to town - but barely...
I did have the fuel pump changed twice under warranty with that car. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Attempting to determine mileage from individual tank fulls is near impossible, The Vibe is difficult to fill consistently and even if you use the same pump every time, it won't fill the same. I started a spreadsheet which I posted earlier in this thread, and the mileage runs from 28 to 36 mpg for no apparent reason other than the way the tank is filled.
I have filled the tank 45 times since I purchased the Vibe in late September of 2011. 44 of those fillups are used to calculate the running average MPG which due to my recent 1900 mile trip from GA thru TN, KY, IL, and IA and back, pushed to 31.959 mpg. My average for the trip fillups was 32.66 mpg but I saw wacky numbers like 28.075 and 36.550 for no reason other than how I filled it, the pump itself, the angle the car sat at, and such. I did get 359 miles on one tank full, and it was only down to just under ¼ tank which is where I usually fill it at. Not good for the fuel pump to run a tank nearly empty all the time.

Just drove my son from Houston to LA this week in his car. Gas mileage was bad, like 29mpg average. But then we had the AC on and were going 80-85 across most of Texas, and there were a lot of hills that required a downshift to 3rd to keep a steady 70+ in NM, AZ and CA. Overall it was about 53 gallons for 1,550 miles.

Just completed a rather long trip from South of Atlanta, Georgia, to Fargo, North Dakota and return.
3061 miles, 1569 miles up, and 1492 miles return. Total gas consumed was 93.958 gallons and a trip average of 32.631 mpg. Most of the trip was run at 74-75 mph with slowing in a number of instances going thru cities or construction zones. There was some two lane state highway driving both ways, but most was interstate.
I might add that the A/C was on for much of the trip, as it was 106°F and the wind was blowing when I stopped in Iowa for gas last Wednesday. This is a base model with auto.
This raised my 11 month average (since I've owned the vehicle) to 32.096 mpg according to the spreadsheet. I've filled the tank 64 times (eleven on this trip alone).
I-70 from Kansas City to St. Louis was quite heavy with traffic Monday evening (labor day evening) and also with State Patrol. I saw eight or ten different blue light traffic stops, almost all were westbound (I was eastbound) and I stopped in the Columbia area and found six State Police vehicles parked at a truck stop and the officers in a "huddle". Saw very little other enforcement on the trip. Only once did I actually see a officer with a laser gun spotting traffic, I went by him at 70 in a 65 zone (in Georgia) and of course he couldn't do anything as its illegal in GA for non-state (meaning municipal or county) officers to use speed detection equipment to cite you for less than 10 over the limit in most cases.
