My first car was a 69 Barracuda, with a slant 6. I was almost 18 at the time.I replaced the 6 with a built 340, then blew out the rear end, in about two months, which was then replaced by a 8-3/4 posi rear-end, with 3.55 gears. The tranny went next, another six months later, rebuilt and then all was fine. Except keeping tires on it.I sold it about two years later when I got into motorcycles. And yeah, I think the 340 is the BEST small block too.

I looked around and didn't see a similar thread. I was just wonderign what peoples frist vehicle was and any fond memories of them.My first was a 1985 Nissan King Cab Pickup truck, which is the same as the datsun, just some differant badging on it i think. It was my starter car all the way thru high school so in the end it was pretty well beat up when I graduated. The stupid thing had no ac or power windows, but for soem reason power locks and a sun roof. I finally traded it in when it hit 210k, still rand fine, but god was it ugly.

My first car was a 1987 Subaru DL...It certainly wasn't the Subaru of the same that Phil and Hope are fans of. It was the year prior to Subaru making AWD standard on all their cars. I loved that car, but while it had about 90 HP brand new, by the time I got it, it was no more than maybe 75.

I've never seen one like it since. It got great mileage, but man was it slow. 0-60 time was measured in minutes. It had over 200,000 miles on when I sold it for $400.00. I wish I had a picture to post.

Mine was a 1985 Chevy Monte Carlo (not the SS version unfortunately). I got in 1991 with only 23,000 miles on it. I bought it from the stereotypical little old lady who only drove it to church on Sunday. It got me through 2 college degrees including some serious commuting to school along with a couple summer jobs that involved some serious driving. I don't have any pictures handy but it was a good, reliable car. I don't know if it was standard but it came with the back half of the roof as vinyl-covered. I could fit many people in that car and proved it many of times.I wish I would have kept that car but I had nowhere to store it.Mike
