Turning her into a "MicroRV". Removed the rear seats, building back in a level platform at same height as standard fold-downs. Using the space under that platform as well as bins or maybe a custom cabinet on drivers side for storage of camping gear & supplies. Sleep on passenger side with head/pillow resting on folded down front seat. Comfy for me + dog. This is why I originally sold my Chevy Astro and got the Vibe, when I realized this was a possibility. Stoked to have the extra stowage, and I also have a tent that extends off the back which provides some covered space if I park for a while.
Would love to see pics of this. Had a friend whom would use her prius with a little tent add on made for the hatch. She could close the hatch at night and run her AC in her car and the engine would turn on as necssary to charge the batteries. She also had a popup camper but would use the car on quick little trips.
Have always enjoyed the versatility of my Vibe. It has more cargo space then a lot of SUV's. At 230,000 miles btw! 2008 had it from 70,000 miles. Replaced the manual transmission at 140,000. Other then that routine maintence stuff.
If I could change anything it would be to have an automatic. My SO won't drive it. Of course that is probably why it has lasted so long.

Seriously though. We don't take it on long trips because she doesn't feel comfortable driving a manual so that has kept the mileage down.
As for camping... do a tremendous amount of hammocking. I sleep better sometimes in the hammock then my own bed. She prefers tent. We picked up a utility trailer from friends ona whim because I could stand up in it (6'4") purely to scratch the itch on doing a conversion. Plus.. great toy hauler.

2005 (base model). 184,000 miles. color = silver with the gray cladding. Alloys. About 184,000 miles on it. Had it since less than 80,000 miles. just over 10 years. Had the torque lock "cel" for years. Had drivers rear tire wearing on inside . Mobile mechanic added a spacer and solved that problem. Been fighting oil leaks for years and currently still scratching my head with the current leak. and driving everyone nuts about it. I,ve been test driving
the used 2023 Corolla LE,s with the 2.0 litre , , 169 h.p. Starting in 2023 the LE model now has a "get-go" gear ahead of the CVT tranny. It is impressive.

I just added 3000 miles to the odometer, now at 228K, on a three week road trip through the Pacific Northwest. I had a couple of maintenance problems the day before I left--a sticky throttle plate and failed radiator fan bearing--that took a half day and $80 to fix. The Vibe ran great at 80 mph freeway speeds, got up some dirt forest service roads for tent camping, and carried my bicycle in the back for some day trips. Didn't burn any oil or lose any other fluids. Fuel efficiency varied from 36 to 40 mpg, depending mainly on wind. Great car.
