The teenagers admitted to stealing the Escort and then attempting to steal the Toyota when the Ford broke down.

Another vote for stickhttp://apnews.myway.com//artic....htmlQuote »Manual Transmission Foils CarjackerSep 26, 8:53 PM (ET)SHAWNEE, Kan. (AP) - A would-be carjacker got away with nothing more than the keys Monday after he apparently was thwarted by the vehicle's manual transmission. The thief was armed with a shotgun when he ordered a 26-year-old man out of his Chevrolet Camaro in a suburban Kansas City parking lot. The driver complied, but when the robber got into the car he was unable to manage the stick shift. The robber fled the scene in a four-door car that someone else was driving.Police are investigating whether the attempted theft is linked to four similar robberies in Johnson County during the past week.

sigh. i now have an auto, and i really really miss my manny tranny. perhaps later down the road i'll upgrade to the new 07 spec b Legacy GT's with 6MT. but that would be much much later down the road. Mav and I swapped cars yesterday, so it made me really miss shifting gears (except in heavy traffic).

Sticks the way to go for most reasons except one huge one-driving in stop and go traffic 5 days a week. That alone was my reason for an automatic

Manual tranny for me! I love the 6-speed (1st 6-speed I've ever owned). My first car was a `71 Camaro, 3-speed on the floor. In fact, over the 30 cars I've owned over the years, only two that I drove were auto's (`91 Toyota Previa mini-van, and my `99 big-block 4wd Suburban). All of the wife's cars have been autos' (she hates sticks!), even her `95 BMW 325i convertible! She's now driving an`05 Chevy Equinox (auto) and loves it! She won't drive me car unless it's an emergency.

Along with 90% of other Vibe drivers, an automatic. However, I do drive "Mom's car" (RSX-S) once or twice/week, so I'll live. Frankly, manuals are a lot more responsive and fun to drive, but automatics aren't terrible. There are times when waiting 6 weeks for a manual Vibe just aren't practical.

I was pretty indifferent about manual or auto until I went to take a look at my 03 Vibe GT on the lot. The car dealer insinuated that since I was female that I could never want a stick shift! Perish the thought! That was it for me. I had to have it and I LOVE it!

Nice job ou.grizzly! This thread had been hibernating for 2.5 years. You know that the people who extol the virtues of the stick shift and deride those who prefer an automatic are simply jealous of the auto driver's mad ability to text and surf the web on their cell phone uninterrupted by the driving task. Here's the ultimate stick shift vehicle. PlatinumVibe08

I drive an automatic. I checked with a guy I trusted from Cottman Transmissions before buying and he said he never got any of the Vibes with automatic in the shop but got a number of the manuals at around the 60k mark.

mid size 4banger in a 2900lb car = stick shift all the way. I didn't even consider the auto when we bought our Vibe. If it had been a five speed auto I might have given it some thought. For all those posts about 'had to get the auto because the wife can't drive a stick'.... teach them, it isn't hard. My wife drives the Vibe like a pro. I taught her on my old car years ago (back when all I had where manuals).

Manual for me. of the 4 cars I've had in the last 15 years only one was an auto.Would've loved to have gotten a 5-speed Manual AWD Vibe. Too bad they don't exist

Gotta say I enjoy driving manual. However if you have an option of more than one vehicle, have one of each.Makes life easier if you temporarily can't drive manual due to back injury, or gout in in the feet.
