GM Supercharger questions?

Post by cappagino99 »

Alright, I have a 2005 vibe base model, auto trans. I have been reading alot of posts about superchargers, but I still have some questions. I recieved a price from a GM dealer for the supercharger kit. They told me it would cost $3900 +tax canadian also add labor on top of that. I'm guessing $5000 approx since the mechanics could not tell me how long it would take them. Is this a good price? As well, what else do I need to get that the kit does not have or does the kit come with everything? I have a nissan 240sx with the sr20det motor, so I know all about gas mileage. I was looking at other posts, and people were complaining about how the gas mileage reduced, so I was thinking, if you drop the psi's then the gas mileage won't be so bad...doesn't this make sense. Increase the psi's when you need it....I know it is hard to say that, how can someone say no to HP and psi. My next question is, I have never driven a turboed automobile in winter, what would I be expecting from the vibe if supercharged. Thanks again,

Considering the initial price listed for the SC in Canada was $7,500, $3,900 sounds pretty good! US list is around $2,900, which is about the dollar conversion at the moment.Re fuel economy, the SC has the same part throttle bypass system as the 3800 SC Buick engine in various GM cars, which means it generates no boost and takes only about 1/3 HP to spin at part throttle. Low SC fuel economy is related primarilly to a heavy foot...

Would Canada be able to go do this http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=9588 or is it just in the US? If you can this is probably best thing.

Thanks for the replies. So basically I can't just purchase the SC and install it just like that. I have to buy the unichip pre programmed. If I go that route, does the warranty become void if the unichip is installed? Do I have to upgrade the sparkplugs? How does it run in the winter climates? Oh yeah, forgot the biggest thing, How does it perform on emission tests?

You dont need a Unichip it would just be good to have to make your car perform the best. I dont think changing spark plugs is needed and not sure about emission.

For all you DIY-ers who want to install it on your own, the limited warranty is 12 months (parts only). It is warranted, but only for a year if you do it yourself.

you can order the gm supercharger(piggyback ecu included) and purchase a unichip later.(or order the trd sc without the piggyback ecu use the unichip instead and save 800 bucks).if you go the first route you can unplug and reinstall gm ecu for emissions though i dont think youd have a problem with the unichip one passing emmissions anyway.
