Problem with Factory Installed GPS and data DVD

Post by 1234 »

Has anyone experienced any of these problems with their “GM Factory installed” GPS navigation system:Press the “Setup” key and the previous screen remains on the left side of the Setup menu screen? The data is not always accurate. By this statement, I am NOT referring to new streets or newly developed areas, I am referring to streets which have existed, and by the same name for decades. In my travels, my system has told me to turn left on a street which was not the name of the actual street; when in fact, I need to turn right to my destination. Also I have noticed highway exit numbers in to be off by 1. In other words... my system has told me to take exit 124 when in fact my exit was 125. I realize many exit numbers have changed on various highways, however this is not the case here.My DVD is version 1, I have had my original NAV system replaced last year as it would not hold my setting more than a week or so, and the unit would reset back to factory default settings.I have two issues here, faulty hardware, an inaccurate software. Hardware support so far has been OK via unit replacement. The software is another story. Has anyone tried to have there DVD replace under warranty? If so, what was your experience and were you successful?

Haven't tried to have mine replaced, nor have I had the issues you've had!First off, the "setup" key thing isn't a bug, it's generally a feature. It's supposed to continue to have the map display on the side while you have the setup keys there. Unfortunately, it's a little dumb, so it just continues to show whatever screen you were on. Not much to be concerned with.As for the rest of it, I could only imagine it's because you're in Ontario. Don't quote me on it, though. I've noticed the general lack of newer streets (it thinks my workplace is still in a swamp) I've never seen it try to go left when you need to take a right, and the exit numbers isn't a surprise. Especially if they've changed them since 99-2000. The data disc is dated 2001, but who knows when the maps were actually updated. I think it's been fought for the DVD before, and I think there -might- be an upgrade, but nobody is quite sure. We should try to find a 2005 with a nav system and see what it's version is. Maybe then we'll have a case..

Thanks for your reply... It good to know the SETUP screen is OK, or at least works the way everyone elses does.GM does have a new DVD available for sale, but they want $800! My beef is I already paid $2450 for a GPS with incorrect data, and they appear to want to charge back to me this cost, rather than replace under warranty. NavTec who produces the data charges $199 for disk upgrades. But according to NavTec, they only send GM the data, and GM has contracted someone else to create the DVD for their GPS!I guess I should have went to WalMart and bought a few maps for $1.99 each and saved my $2450. In any event... GM has lost this customer.

In a previous thread, I posted some info on the nav system. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=10366 In the USA the price is comparable with other simular systems. There is also a link to two sites which show the map detail by areas. On another note, if you exits are off by one, is the GPS working properly? Does it have you in the correct area? Perhaps you have made a tire size change or something else that may be throwing the system off?

Thank you for your input.Where the Exit numbers were off by 1, the map was right on with both my position and the exit layout, just the map exit label and voice annoncement was incorrect. So, I believe the callibration to be correct as my position was correct on the map. There is one local spot here in the city were the exit is off by 1 but the exits before and after this one are both labeled correctly on my GPS.

1234,I've seen a lot of posts about the high price of the nav DVD, but I see it listed at GMPARTSDIRECT.com for about $290 (part# 88973143). Was it a dealer that quoted $800?Brgds

Will the nav disc, Part # 15105609, work in the Vibe? This disc ships with Escalade and Hummer H2, and someone said the Hummer nav system is the same Delphi unit that the Vibe uses.I REALLY wish someone would come up with a chart that tells which discs will work with which nav units. This "contact your dealer" nonsense just serves to keep the customer in the dark so they can keep the prices artificially high. Surely, there must be some move towards standardization of the mapping data. It only makes economic sense. And I STILL wish they would hire Majel Barrett Roddenberry to do the voice!

But checking the price on the number you gave, it is only $15.71 less then the most recent Vibe number posted.

It might not work. I had tried a disc from a Lexus Nav system which is also built by Delphi...pretty much the same software, except that system had some of the A/C controls running through it.. It did not work..Everytime we have a NAV vehicle come by the shop, I try out their disc.. so far it's just been two Lexus discs..

Perhaps a Nav equiped Vibe owner could try taking one of those trucks for a test drive (or at least the disc) and report back. A source tells me that at least some of the 2005 GM SUVs get one free disc upgrade during their ownership. Somesort of postcard comes with the manuals to send for it.
