The sunshade does not slide back by itself. It does open with the power switch. Now there is a big scratch on the right side of the sun shade. If I push up the right corner, it will slide ok.Does other Vibes have the similar problem?Does it take a lot to fix it? Like taking apart the car? Thanks

Yes. I do have an appointment to take it in (and other prep items) on Thursday. Just to confirm. The sunshade CAN slide open when the sunroof is closed, right? In other words, let the light in. Someone please confirm. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your problems. Welcome!I guess I was just lucky, I developed the habit of opening the shade and/or leaving it open before I opened the sunroof. And, yes you should be able to open the shade independently of the sunroof.

you can open/close the sunshade when the glass is closed or when the glass is tilted up. The only thing you shouldn't be able to do is close the sunshade when the glass is slid back.
Is this a new feature for the 04 Vibes only? I didn't know that the shade was supposed to close by itself when the glass is slid back to the closed position.

I'm fairly certain the shade does NOT close by itself. If it closed with the sunroof... then it wouldn't be able to open independently of the sunroof. Meaning, you could only gaze at the moon with the sunroof open... which wouldn't make any sense.I have a moonroof in my Sunfire, I usually keep the shade thing open, unless its raining, then its depressing for me to see the rain beating on the top of the car. Maybe I'm just weird.

New car has problem just take it in and ask the people who sold it to you to fix it. If there is nothing to fix then your good if there is then you get it fixed, very simple.

They say it will take TWO days. The tech called and thought I was taking about the sun visor.

I didn't know that the shade was supposed to close by itself when the glass is slid back to the closed position. My '03 does.... When the moonroof is closed, shade pushed back, and I make a quick stop it will close anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4 of the way. It's not a really "feature," it's just broken. It has been doing this for a year now, but I haven't bothered to get it fixed. I would get it fixed, but it took forever to get the greasy fingerprints off the headliner from the last time they worked on the moonroof.

Same with me...mine slides closed, quite irritating...I just stuck some paper in between the shade and the headliner, keeps it from closing on me.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

All they did was order a new sun shade which will take two days. Did not find any problems, other than the evidence of the damaged sun shade. I hope it won't scratch up the new shade when the installed it.

The sunshade closing on its own finally got to me, so I scheduled an appointment with the dealer on Monday. I wonder if they'll replace the shade or just find some way to fix it...
My shade does come back slightly (maybe 1/8 to 1/4 of the way closed), nothing that I get excited about. I does not; however, close by itself when I close the moonroof.
I am glad I held out for a car without a moonroof. They were in the minority. Perhasp that's why the one I finally found had been around awhile.

Dealer fixed it yesterday. When they took it apart, they found a bolt that must have fell in when they built the car. That was the cause that scratched up the sunshade/prevent it from opening.

Got my moonroof shade fixed today, somehow they were able to increase the tension for the shade. Now it's very difficult to slide back. That has definitely fixed it.Just as expected, I had to clean the headliner and shade, they got grease all over the place. I picked up a can of that Blue Magic spot remover stuff at AutoZone, worked like a charm.
