Hey guys,It's been a while since I checked in, but I have gone from Vibe curiosity-seeker to imminent Vibe owner (picking up Friday). My dealer has offered to Simoniz (System 5, I suppose) the car for $300. Worth it? Quick replies appreciated as I have to let him know tomorrow for the full five-year warranty. Also, a bit off-topic, but even though I ordered the splash guards he said he can't put them on or they look bad on the front tires due to some "bumper extender" I never ordered and have never heard discussed before. Any idea what the problem is? Thanks so much.Thanks.Amused

They're the bottom-most piece of trim that jut outward to block rocks and other debris from hitting the car. The mudflaps currently offered by GM are NOT designed to work with those rocker extensions. The 2004 mudflaps that fit the rocker extensions are not due out for several months yet. I'd see if you can return the set to the dealer. If not, I recommend selling them on here or ebay.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
I think that it depends on how often and how well you plan on maintaining the exterior of your new Vibe. If you plan to wash and wax often and do it properly, then I'd say its probably a waste of money. If you do minimal exterior care, then it will be worth it to you.

From what I have read in numerous consumer magazines and other places, it is a waste of money. On top of that, if it is applied improperly, it can actually harm the finish.I will bet this is a very high profit item for a dealer, just like many other "features" finance manager tries to sell you.

Maybe too late by now, but what 5 year warranty are you talking about? Depending on what the warranty covers, enough people here have had paint issues that a five year warranty might be a steal at only $300. Odds are that the warranty wouldn't cover paint chips though.Quote, originally posted by amused »It's been a while since I checked in,...your last post before this one was in July 2002. I don't think I had even heard of Vibes back then. It has been a while. Welcome back, and congratulations on getting a vibe. You probably already have it by now, so tell us what you got so we can tell you that it sounds great be sure to read the advice for new owner thread and add any tips that haven't been mentioned yet.
Thanks for the welcome and for your and everyone's helpful advice. It may indeed be too late (my bad), but I will call the dealier first thing in the morning and try to get the Simoniz on and the splash guards off until the '04 guards come 'round. If I can't get the Simoniz on in time, I'll bring it back. So, I lose a year on the warranty. C'est la vie. Thanks also for the new user forum. Some great tips there and I have a lot more questions I'll be posting on other forums.Have to work on my sig, but I got an '04 AWD Lava Vibe w/ Moon and Tunes, Power, Protection and Action Packages!Amused

I have no idea what the simoniz warranty covers. I guess what I meant was that if it covers paint chips then it's probably a good deal. If it doesn't, it is probably not worth it. I don't remember getting that offered to me when I bought mine, Find out exactly what it does cover before you decide if you need it.
My dad mentioned something about a 10 yr warranty on the paint that most people don't know about. It may not apply to the Vibe, but it'd be worth looking into.
It's usually a 10 year 100,000 mile rust-through warranty. If any metal body panel rusts so bad that it causes a hole all the way through the metal, then they have to fix it. I've never heard of paint chips being covered under any kind of warranty.
