Where to start with modifications

Post by chaotic_amber »

Ok, I picked up my new Vibe this evening and I am already feeling the itch to make it 'My Own.'I plan on removing the Vibe badges on the doors and from the liftgate. Probably will remove the Pontiac badge from the gate as well, but I'm not certain yet. Is it possible to re-position a badge? For instance move it from the right side to the left, or would I be looking at popping the badge off and getting a replacement decal from someone like grafxwerks?Next step is a handful of custom decals. I am looking for three modified Superman logos like those pictured in my avatar. Two for the quarter panels behind the rear doors and one for the liftgate. I've emailed cuttingfx.com about doing a custom job because I haven't found anything even close on my own. However, if anybody has a better suggestion based on personal experience, I am open to suggestions.I would appreciate some feedback from you all first. Since I have never done anything like this before there are a few things I would like to know. Are decals removeable? If I change my mind about them can I swap them for a new set in a year or two? How difficult are they to put on? Like I said I have never done anything like this before, am I likely to screw it up and need to get help fixing them? Finally, at least for the first round of modifications, I am considering an upgrade to the Hella horns that everyone here seems very fond of. Those i'll probabily have to wait a payday or two until I can afford them. Having a bit of electrical experience and having the install pdf from Ragingfish I might be brave enough to attempt that on my own. Maybe. Perhaps I will see if I can make it to the Michigan Vibe convention in June and have someone oversee my installation.

Another quick question. On Grafxwerks which of the reflective colors most closely matches Salsa? Looks to me like Reflective Dark Red should be the best match.

But I honestly don't know the proper adhesive to use for those. I'm sure a dealer would do it for a price, or maybe a body shop would give you some adhesive. Dealer is less likely to offer help with that one. If you opt to go the decal route though, grafxwerks has lots of great decals to replace them.Quote »Next step is a handful of custom decals. Scherry2 had some "spider" decals made for his vibe so it is now the "spider vibe." E-mail them and give them a link to your picture. I bet you they can do it for you. Go to http://www.grafxwerks.com/about_us.php and there is a contact link on the bottom. (I won't post their email addy here because I don't want them to get spammed). They're doing a custom job for me right now, will have it I hope by the end of the week, or at least by next week. I'll post pics in this thread when I get them. It's a community surprise right now, so I can't give any details. Quote »I would appreciate some feedback from you all first. If I change my mind about them can I swap them for a new set in a year or two?Absolutely! Just use Goo Gone or another adhesive remover to get off any residue that may be left behind.I bought a few and changed my mind months later and they came right off!Quote »How difficult are they to put on? Like I said I have never done anything like this before, am I likely to screw it up and need to get help fixing them? Not likely. All you need is a hair dryer and a steady hand. I haven't read stories about anyone having trouble with applications. It's a snap, I promise!Quote »Finally, at least for the first round of modifications, I am considering an upgrade to the Hella horns that everyone here seems very fond of. Trust me, they're worth every penny!Quote »Another quick question. On Grafxwerks which of the reflective colors most closely matches Salsa? I think the dark red is probably a close match, but I'd IM "GrafxWerks" on genvibe, or send them an email, just to be sure.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Yeah....I spent a few hours here last night going through some of the posts & looking at some of the past articles. I love my Vibe....Will try to create a page like everyone else....Only mine probably won't be as bad (_|_) as everyone's (~_*).
